You are not understanding this completely. What they are saying is that those who are not in high-risk groups, are predicted to have lower morbidity and mortality, as compared to the numbers originally theorized.
But COVID-19 is highly contagious, more so than standard Influenza, and if you ARE in a high-risk group, you not only will get it, you will likely die.
So to prevent the spread to those high-risk groups, masking and containment are the recommendations, which is exactly what we are doing.
This is about protecting our senior citizens, obese people, etc. This is about protecting your fellow Americans. It always was.
Freon
Are you referring to senior citizens, obese, etc as the high the risk groups? Because if you are it is actually not likely they will die if infected with covid. The confirmed case fatality rate for those over 85 with covid is hovering around 30%. Or maybe you're referring to those over 85, with cancer, diabetes, and heart disease? Then yes it seems that it would be likely they would die if they got the covid. Just like they would likely die if they somehow got out of bed. I don't know where you got that number, but 30%, 1 in 3, is huge. Of the 6.5 million Americans over 85, that is about 1.95 million dead.
And you are not willing to wear a stupid face mask for them? ?

I got the number from here: www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-death-rate-us-compared-to-flu-by-age-2020-6That is the rate based on confirmed cases. The IFR is likely much smaller. But anyways 30% still means that you are -unlikely- to die from it. Not likely. Likely would mean a greater than 50% probability. Your statistic is assuming a 100% rate of infection which is extremely unlikely. Not everyone is going to get infected, we will have reached herd immunity long before that. It's like you don't have any clue what you are talking about. If I'm going to be interacting with the elderly then yes I wear a mask. If not then nope, not unless the business I enter requires it.

You would put their lives at risk, because you are too inconvenienced to wear a mask?
It is such a small price to pay to put your fellow citizens before yourself, but you won't do it. And why? Because you, with no expertise in science, no training, feel you know more than those who do.
That's fine, Lomelis, but that attitude is why you keep losing your 'freedoms'. Those of us who know that people like you exist, feel we need to pass laws to mitigate your ignorance and insensitivity to others. Freon

Someone needs to tell KStU that not all men in white coats are CDC...

And again, the number of people that get it, survive, but have long term health problems because of it is also going up. Younger people. Comparing it to the flu is ignorant. There is no comparison.

You were way out ahead of the CDC? And you were right? Wow! That's amazing!! We don't need experts with multiple academic credentials in their field, we need more bots crawling the internets looking for posts like yours! The experts panicked, their predictions have been all over the place, they crashed the economy, and they made protecting who they considered more valuable their top priority instead of protecting the more vulnerable.I think we've been putting a little too much trust in these so-called experts. It doesn't really seem like they were experts at all. It looks more like they had no clue what they were doing.

This is always true. It always has been true. So why are you acting like some sort of saint with your new found ethics? Because it’s more deaths? Are fewer deaths acceptable to you? Is putting elderly people at risk by not wearing a mask ok so long as fewer of them die?

Brilliant. A mask prevents people from touching door knobs. Lol. I'm not putting people in anymore risk than I normally would before there was the bat flu. You have been consistently caught misunderstanding, exaggerating, and misrepresenting the data. Nobody takes you seriously Igor. The only thing your laws have accomplished is throwing millions of people into poverty. Good job.

Igor. You wear the mask on your face. Not your hands. Are you wearing a mask to prevent yourself from licking door knobs and windows or something?

No Freon, there is a difference between ignorance and willful ignorance. Lomelis falls in to the second category.

Only ignorant partisan fools are blaming the ventilators instead of the root cause, the virus:
So KStU is way off target. He doesn't even seem to comprehend his own link.

That article is from April. Ventilators were still thought to be helpful then. We've learned they helped alright. They helped the virus grow and attack. High flow oxygen is the treatment of choice today. A ventilator is a last ditch effort that rarely works.
