This is interesting, but mass production is always the limiting factor. I track these technologies, and almost every week, I hear about some new breakthrough or another, but rarely does that get transformed into products because the manufacturing process for the technology is simply too expensive, cumbersome, resource-limited, etc. What IS very telling, is that industry seems to be standardizing to the Tesla adapter for recharging. I know of at least four companies that are doing so, and standards are what drives technology adoption more than revolutionary solutions. Freon

As with most innovations it will be expensive and impractical in the beginning. Remember when DVD players were $500 and a 40" HDTV was $2,000? If there's real potential in the technology, the market will eventually make it happen.

A Pulitzer Prize winning book titled the soul of a new machine was the start in standardization of computer platforms and. Compatibility. When that happened things exploded. It’s good to see standardization on charging.

But specifically to Toyota's 'breakthrough', I will be surprised if it actually turns into a product. That said, I would LOVE their new hybrid Sienna Freon

I am traveling to Connecticut in November with my two dogs to a wedding. At most in that 1300 mile trip I will stop four times for gas. It will take me ten minutes to fill my tank and be on the way again. Maybe a bit longer if I get a cup of coffee and a treat for my dogs. If you go with an electric car, how far before you have to charge it, and how long will that take?

Hydrogen powered vehicles are already here. It's only a matter of time before the infrastructure is built out and hydrogen becomes cheaper than gas.
EV's will never replace gas powered. Millions of people live in apartments and condos that will not be able to place electric chargers in every parking place.

Unfortunately so far, all the articles are long on Toyota's EV promises but disappointingly short on details.
Here's one:
But as I read through the article, I could find little detail on just how these new batteries work better.
There's also the fire danger from Lithium batteries:
For more details, watch the video at above link.
Interestingly, the link discusses lithium batteries in devices such as scooters and e-bikes, and cautions against storing an ebike by an exit door, because of the potential for fire hazard.
Now, I'll be looking for stats on just how many battery operated automobiles catch fire.

And I should ask, what does a recharge cost?

Would it be the end of the world it you had to stop 5 times for 20 minutes each?

Try actually reading the article numbnuts. Simple question, how far, and how long to recharge. And I should ask, what does a recharge cost? It's a mystery. Except to those who read the article.
