What people miss is not everybody will go from ice to full electric, there are plug in hybrids. I bought one in Jan and have put 2000 miles on using 18 gals of gas. That's 109 miles to the gallon. The first 40 miles are electric only and almost all of our trips are less than that. When on longer trips we put the car into hybrid mode and the gas engine will power the electric motor and charge the battery until you hit 70 mph then the gas motor will work with electric motor to propel the car.
When you figure our electric rate the cost is equivalent 1.14 per "gallon" of gas. We have a 220 volt charger in the garage that plugs into a 220 volt plug and fully recharges in 2 hours. People with range anxiety or who live in apartments that can't reliably charge can still join the electric car future. And make no mistake, the electric car IS the future. It will take time.

You don’t have time to stop and charge a tractor in the middle of a harvest.

You should look it up. You might be surprised. Would it be the end of the world it you had to stop 5 times for 20 minutes each? What do you think I meant by my post?

You don’t have time to stop and charge a tractor in the middle of a harvest. I charge while I'm sleeping. I bet the farmers will figure that out.

Sorry, my response was meant for archie's, "traveling to Connecticut in November with my two dogs to a wedding. At most in that 1300 mile trip I will stop four times for gas. It will take me ten minutes to fill my tank ..." I clicked the wrong quote. Sorry, my mistake

I hope it’s true. But I have my doubts. I also doubt the corrupt and inept governments of our country at the central and state level will have our grids capable of supporting such a quick transition.

The power grid? The infrastructure (charging stations, etc.)? Or both? Are you advocating domestic investment in such infrastructure?

If more people want it, and it becomes more affordable and efficient, there won’t be a need for what I assume you mean as government investment. Entrepreneurs will invest to make profit. As to our power grid, it will have to be beefed up to accommodate for far more EVs. To be honest, not sure how that is fixed. I just know it’s not capable right now.

New industries may be spawned and the grid may not have to be be taxed dramatically. Of course with extended range EV's the need for a charging station on every corner will be reduced drastically. Solar charging your car is possible, researchers say. Here's how
Wouldn't be surprised in the future that EV's become partially self charging as solar panels are installed on the hood, trunk and roof.

"Swap battery packs." Do you know how big the battery on a Tesla is? Do you think it would be smaller for a tractor? Yeah, where there's a will there's a way. Or...just use a gas tractor and leave EVs for where they are more practical.

Game Changer for EV's? Death of Gas Cars?
No.
People seem to completely ignore that our power structure that would be relied on to provide energy for EVs is powered primarily by fossil fuels and will be for a very long time considering how much damage to the climate the production of EVs can cause.
Anymore I view the entire "green" industry through the lens of pushes to recycle only to pay countries like China to take that recycled waste ... where they dump it into the ocean while they laugh at how stupid we are.
There are no honest brokers in the energy industry.

I bought a hybrid in the early 2000’s. The car made me feel sick. I went on Edmund’s car forum to research and hear from others. I ended up interviewed by a reporter from NYT. I believe in using alternates to fossil fuel when possible; but the design has to have improved. I am hypersensitive to EMF’s (and barometric pressure).

Shh. Let's not talk about that.

Twenty four minutes for the first idiot response. Surprised it took that long.
