The repeated lie in the conservative mission to undermine the US Postal Service is that it is constantly in the red.
This supposed inefficiency dates back to the 2006 legislation that effectively doomed the USPS by requiring it to fund 75 years of projected pension obligations in advance, something no other government agency or private company is required to do. The USPS actually operationally shows a profit. It's just this poison pill from a Republican dominated Congress that is feeding the unconstitutional effort to sabotage the USPS.
And of course Trump is all over this, as he sees ham-stringing the USPS as a way to help ensure his own re-election. Remember what his long-time personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, recently wrote: that Trump will stop at nothing ("and I mean nothing") to ensure his re-election.
Nothing less than America's democracy is at stake here.

1) The author declines to comment on whether Congress should fix the problem.
2) Why the HELL can't the Postal Service fall back on Social Security and Medicare for its retirees? Like as is the case for the vast majority of American workers (including myself)? I paid into both Social Security and Medicare for most of my working life, and currently pay about $250/month out of my retirement income towards Medicare Part B plus Senior Advantage. Would be nice if Congress stepped in and covered ALL of that, but I won't get my hopes up. The exception is for the time I worked for a state university system, and because I was on research grants that started and stopped never got "vested" in their retirement system. Social Security came to my rescue there.
3) Please remove your insulting reference to me in your signature. It's childish and pathetic.

Something that I don't know has been said. I have faith in the postal workers. In the most pivotal election cycle in our lifetime I think they will rise to the occasion and prioritize election ballots to be delivered on time to the very best of their ability despite whatever obstacles are put in front of them.
They will become real American heroes.
