Because the post office is bleeding money and they are trying to reconfigure to stop that. The plans were made before COVID 19 was a thing and then finalized before talk of a mail in election. Now? Right before an election where the post office is going to be swamped with large volumes of mail? Really? Greg Yeah. These things take time to start and time to stop. Large organizations have a momentum to them that can't just change on a dime, especially when they are bloated bureaucracies like the USPS. And it is unlikely to affect the election. It may change the timing of when Biden concedes, but he'll still concede. |

I did ask two people I know who work at our local post office. Both 15 plus year veterans.
They said when trump took office they had to implement many total quality programs and streamline workflow with the same size staff.
But said they have not seen any changes or had any. We directives at all that impact their mail processing and delivery system. They just laugh at the politically motivated stories.

Greg, they rotate between the processing center in Scarborough and the “retail” center in our town. No changes they’ve seen in either since the streamlining of processes.

The repeated lie in the conservative mission to undermine the US Postal Service is that it is constantly in the red.
This supposed inefficiency dates back to the 2006 legislation that effectively doomed the USPS by requiring it to fund 75 years of projected pension obligations in advance, something no other government agency or private company is required to do. The USPS actually operationally shows a profit. It's just this poison pill from a Republican dominated Congress that is feeding the unconstitutional effort to sabotage the USPS.
And of course Trump is all over this, as he sees ham-stringing the USPS as a way to help ensure his own re-election. Remember what his long-time personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, recently wrote: that Trump will stop at nothing ("and I mean nothing") to ensure his re-election.
Nothing less than America's democracy is at stake here.
