SourceIf we had been pushing detente and a political resolution instead of blocking that, this probably could've happened much sooner. When you consider the broader regional developments - Saudi and UAE talks with Iran, etc. - it makes no sense for to us to remain in Syria (not that it made any sense before then either).

as we pull out, someone will fill the void...that is, I suppose, if you feel energy is important, and as a subset of energy, fossil fuels like oil are important...
the current admin thinking seems to be we will be 100% solar and wind in a year or so...so, we might as well shut down domestic pipelines, and cede control of production to OPEC, and it seems now, the russians...
I guess the good news, is we will stop rising global temps, at least around the US, and when the world floods as the fires from the extreme hear soar, the US will be spared.

Syria's not part of OPEC and we don't get oil from Syria. There's also not much we can criticize here; we're doing the same thing in Eastern Syria. We need to get out of there. We're only prolonging the inevitable.

I find it ironic that trump was the one who led the effort and cause to leave syria...and, when he did, the left jumped all over him...even on this board, for "abandoning" the syrians... warontherocks.com/2019/05/the-terrible-case-for-staying-in-syria/I simply love the lefts (not saying this is you demos), constantly changing position, simply based on politics...not that the right does not do this occasionally, but this is beyond absurd... I'd love to see countries fight their own civil wars, and hopefully in time people will choose their right leaders...unless there is some strategic reason for us to favor a side, I say let them duke it out inside their own country... when the US is mostly all fine, then maybe I'll change my position...but right now we have a host of domestic problems that seem to be becoming worse by the hour.

Except, we never left Syria. Our "withdrawal" was basically just a tactical withdrawal; we moved troops out of the way of Turkey and moved some of them into Iraq, so they could still operate in Syria. There was never a withdrawal of our occupation of Syria. All of the talk about withdrawal - particularly from critics and talking heads - was deceptive. And when you look at what we've done in Syria, such as financially supporting groups that were aligned with AQ or eventually became part of ISIS, we absolutely should've stayed out of it.

SourceNow GTFO of Syria. Also, this story notes that James Jeffrey - Trump's former Syrian envoy - is now doing some lobbying for Delta Crescent.

SourceGet Congressional authorization for this or GTFO, especially regarding actions in Syria. But instead the Speaker is giving it her blessing.
