I saw it years ago, and before that, years and years ago. I don't remember that. But it was years ago, and years and years ago.
Yeah, I only saw that once, and it seems like the Turkish commander, by the name of Kassim Bey (?) tried to get Lawrence to "service" him during an "interview". But I couldn't find any references to the coat hook through the back of the Bey's head, which I do remember seeing. Might have been in a one-off showing at the UC Theater in Berkeley. Oh well, at least they didn't show the actual sexual assault, either. There's also a lot of controversy about what experiences TE Lawrence actually had in that conflict, and who did what to whom, with lawsuits flying all over the place by various parties angry at how they were portrayed in the movie. And the Bey character was more or less fabricated, too. Still, a great flick, and O'Toole gave an epic performance, as did Omar Sharif.
Oh, wait. It wasn't Lawrence of Arabia. The movie I was thinking of is "Midnight Express" which indeed included a scene with a Turkish prison guard trying to molest an American prisoner (Billy), and winds up getting his head impaled on a coat hook on the wall. Whew. This was bothering me. Not so much the scene, which was bad enough, but that nobdy else remembered it.
LOL. Both great movies: Lawrence of Arabia, and Midnight Express.

Yes, both movies contain people that look... kinda... Arab... that's pretty much all they have in common.

I think you're too old to be called a boy, but to each their own.

Been going through some of my DVD collection.
Already watched all of Victory at Sea.
Now in the middle of World At War. Had to take a break during the episodes about the Holocaust. Just too depressing. But I'll resume later today just so I can say I finished it. Again.

Last night, the local PBS station played "The Founder", which is a very interesting movie about how Ray Kroc took over and greatly expanded the McDonald's hamburger business.
"Took over" is sort of a kind way of putting it. He basically stole it.
Towards the movie end he expounds on how it was primarily the name, McDonald, he was after. I guess Krocburgers wouldn't have sold as well.
Very American.

This has been shown before, but it's a fascinating look at an old mystery...
Wednesday, May 4 9:00 pm KQED 9 Nova Hindenburg: The New Evidence 56 min 80 years after the world's largest airship ignited in a giant fireball, newly discovered footage sparks a reinvestigation of what exactly caused the Hindenburg disaster.
Can anyone guess what the new finding revealed?

Not sure but this gigantic blimp was a time-bomb. It was a matter of time before a single spark would destroy it. It's like sitting on a crate of nitroglycerin while jungling with petanque balls.

Well, yes, but the Hindenburg had an excellent safety record up to that fateful landing. There was a basic reason why it caught fire, one that wasn't figured out for many decades, and it wasn't just the nature of hydrogen.

OK, nobody has guessed yet what was the cause of the Hindenburg explosion.
So, I'll give a little hint: the word begins with "C" ...

Just enjoyed re-watching the following program, which is part of a series from WTTW Chicago, "10 That Changed America".
I confess I was a bit disappointed that no mention was made of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, which truly is one of the greatest urban oasis in America. To top that off, two of Seattle's parks are covered. Go figure! Anyway, it's still good watching. Friday, May 13 5:00 pm KQED World 10 Parks That Changed America 56 min Explore the serene spaces that offer city dwellers a respite from the hustle and bustle of urban life, from Savannah's elegant squares to a park built over a freeway in Seattle to New York's High Line. Here's the WTTW page: And a very good Wiki on GG Park: PS-I basically grew up next door to GG Park, and found it provided me with a great start for my scientific career (via the Academy of Sciences inside the park). I cannot explain the omission of GG Park from this show.

Currently watching an movie from India titled "Lion". About 1/2 way through. It's kind of sad at the start. A little Hindu boy gets lost from his mother "Mum", and gets on a train that goes 2500 km south of his hometown. I'm at the point where he gets adopted by a kindly (I think) Australian family.
Saturday, May 28 8:00 pm KQED 9 Saturday Night Movie Lion 1 hour 58 min Twenty-five years after accidentally separating from his family, Saroo (Dev Patel) sets out to find his lost family in India and finally return to his first home.
I'm hoping it has a happy ending.

Based on a true story. That reminds me the words of Boris Vian: “This story is entirely true, because I imagined it from one end to the other”.

Actually Mercy is right. At the end the station played a little summary, and the real Lion was shown.

Local PBS station is showing "Ocean's 11" tonight (1960 version). Two hours seven minutes, no commercial breaks. I can't say it's my favorite type of cinema (Rat Pack Comedy/Action), but right now Sammy Davis is giving a relatively well done performance.
