This is an interesting program that's coming round again.
Rick Steves is a genial chap who travels the world. Nice work if you can get it. He's a little too nice to delve into the real heavy stuff, and it seems incongruous when he discusses the atrocities, but it's worth a watch on your local PBS station when it comes around.

Started watching a series with the same name as the movie, Das Boot. It is of course about a German u-boat during WWII. Much of the action so far (first half of season 1) is centered around the submarine base in France and the interactions between the French and the Germans, as well as some high drama between German sailors on the main submarine in the story.
It's riveting.

Yes, saw the movie when it came out. It's very good as well. Might even have it on DVD.
The mini-series, now in its third 8 episode season, is similar but includes far more on-shore drama and depictions of the French resistance during the war.
It also alleges that some American corporations profited handsomely off the Third Reich.

No, it is not a movie sequel. You will be able to enjoy it without having seen the movie, and if you see the movie afterward it will be just as enjoyable.

Just started re-watching the Nova series on The Planets. It was shown in its entirety today during the day on the local PBS station. So I recorded it to DVD for later watching. Got through the first hour no problem, Then fell asleep sometime after that. Woke up as it was describing Pluto (dwarf planet). It's all fascinating. All five hours of it. When I'm awake, that its, LOL.
It's of some personal interest if only because I did some college student work in an astronomy lab back in the day. Even got my name in one of their papers. Yee hah!

I believe that their bank invested in hitler long after it was illegal, or maybe that's fake news from the bush years. |

True, before the war started, but after it was illegal to do business with the nazis. The way I understand it - FDR was able to use this to persuade them to support his agenda and is why the bush kid's agenda has been to undo FDR's work. Isn't this thread about underwater boats on cd? |
