I'm not saying there's nothing positive to come from Christianity (though I'd strongly disagree with the points you mentioned). Positive things have come from all kinds of religions. I was talking about this particular issue we were discussing.
More broadly I think most religions are a net negative. There may be exceptions like Buddhism.
When Christians founded and established modern science and invented air travel as well as putting a man on the moon, what were the Buddhists doing? When Christians invented the entire medical field with all its hospitals, what were the Buddhists doing? Seems to me that Christians left the Buddhists in the dusts of their barbarism. Funny, how you have such a narrow definition of what it means to be "Christian" (i.e., you dismiss me as a "heretic" because I don't accept a literal 6-day Creation (along with oodles of other Christians?)), but then you include everybody in the West as "Christian" as if the word means some kind of socio-cultural designation...? |

Honestly, your posts are becoming at the same time increasingly arrogant and ignorant. Evolution starts with the materials from which life could diversify (i.e., living matter). It says nothing about the origin of those materials. It also says nothing about "pre-life" or "abiogenesis" (although some are trying to prove some kind of "chemical evolution" that precedes the mechanisms of RNA and DNA). Really, this is quite basic knowledge of the theory of evolution. It's like you're determined to prove your own ignorance by your misrepresentation of the theory. If you want to disprove something, challenge WHAT IT SAYS, not WHAT IT DOESN'T SAY. This is basic. So go ahead, challenge evolution. But don't challenge some kind of weird distortion of evolution and think you're challenging evolution. EDIT: What Carl Sagan says about the origin of materials ("stardust") is not the "theory of evolution." That he "is an evolutionist" has no bearing on it, just as if he says chocolate chip cookies should be made with sifted flour doesn't make those chocolate chip cookies "part of the theory of evolution" or "evolutionist chocolate chip cookies." |
