Well, unless the GOP goes along with making them citizens, I don't see a realistic path forward on that. Right now there is no effect on voting. And that doesn't seem poised to change. You’re still thinking too short term. 2nd Gen immigrants are full citizens. They vote far more for democrats than Republicans historically. Based on my quick search, it looks like 2nd generation immigrants from Mexico break for the Democrats 53% and 39% for the GOP. That's a big difference but the GOP could make inroads with this group (and with US citizens in general) if they moderated their messaging and platform. One thing I am not interested in: turning our nation in an illiberal direction just to help the GOP, or leaving immigrants in legal limbo because I am scared they will vote this way or that upon gaining citizenship. I would love for these folks to become citizens, and then we could see how their kids voted and all that but I just don't see it happening. It is not politically viable. Also the GOP not only has problems courting immigrants, they also have problems courting US citizens and that is why they require white guy DEI (the electoral college) just to be politically viable.
The GOP has a marketing problem that goes well beyond immigrants.

What I hear far more is the idea that Democrats are importing eventual voters as a long term strategy, and I run both professionally and personally in some pretty right wing circles. I don’t think that’s a wild conspiracy theory. Well, Trump is the main fountain of this stuff. Listen to him and you can't miss it. Or just spend some time on X, or watching Tucker, or that horse faced Nazi lady on Fox (sorry can't remember her name). There's a bunch of lesser influencers who go hard on this, such as the goypers, but the big players are more worth focusing on. I am talking about the "Jews are poisoning are blood stuff." The lesser claim that the Democrats are importing voters is just what people say when they don't want to be accused of being racists, but are comfortable with simply being paranoid conspiracy theorists. There's nothing to suggest latin American's are natural allies with the Democrats. If anything, their experience with socialism predisposes them toward the GOP. Cubans being an extreme example of this. I remember some analysis which showed immigrants were more conservative than US citizens on numerous issues. ![]()  |
