Zelenskyy open to talks with Russia — on Ukraine’s term
Ukraine’s president has suggested he’s open to peace talks with Russia, softening his earlier refusal to negotiate with Moscow while President Vladimir Putin is in power — while sticking to Kyiv’s demands. Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s appeal to the international community late Monday to “force Russia into real peace talks” reflected a change in rhetoric for a man who signed a decree in late September stating “the impossibility of holding talks” with Putin. But since his preconditions appear to be non-starters for Moscow, it’s hard to see how Zelenskyy’s latest comments would advance any talks...
Ukraine says talks with Russia hinge on ‘territorial integrity’
Kyiv’s main precondition for entering negotiations with Russia on ending the war is the return of all captured Ukrainian land, according to a high-ranking security official. Oleksiy Danilov, the secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, said on Tuesday that the Ukrainian side also needed the “guarantee” of modern air defences, aircraft, tanks and long-range missiles...
Hungary Threatens to Block EU Joint Funds for Ukraine Aid
Hungary won’t back European Union efforts to aid Ukraine with jointly raised funds, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said, a stance that comes as Budapest fights with the bloc to access recovery funds held up by a rule-of-law dispute. Hungary has provided support for Kyiv on a bilateral basis and will continue to do so, Szijjarto said Monday at a conference in Sofia. Budapest opposes any arrangement that would see funding jointly with other EU member states, he said...
There isn't much on the mobilization news, but makes me wonder about Ukraine's military casualties, which there hasn't been much news about (compared to news about Russian casualties).
Russia, U.S. To Hold First Talks Under Nuclear Treaty Since Ukraine Conflict
The United States and Russia are expected to meet soon and discuss resuming inspections under the New START nuclear arms reduction treaty that have been paused since before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price said on Tuesday. Speaking at a daily press briefing, Price said the bilateral consultative commission (BCC), the mechanism for implementation of the last remaining arms control agreement between the world's two largest nuclear powers, will meet "in the near future"...
UN to vote on resolution saying Russia must pay reparations
The U.N. General Assembly scheduled a vote for Monday on a resolution that would call for Russia to be held accountable for violating international law by invading Ukraine, including by paying reparations. The draft resolution, obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press, would recognize the need to establish “an international mechanism for reparation for damage, loss or injury’” arising from Russia’s “wrongful acts” against Ukraine...
Petty? You're a bunch of leeches completely dependent on the US for defense against the "mighty" Russians.
You should be paying us taxes.
I'm pretty sure there's not been a moment in history in which Russia/USSR/Russia could've invaded England/UK.
Your ill-informed rightwing meme is, er, ill-informed.
Possibly learning something about military capabilities would benefit you.
Ah. You assume I disagree with that. I actually am in complete agreement. And I think that applies to many other nations in Europe. This leads to the question why the fuck are Americans spending billions defending you doesn't it? Or are there ulterior motives like I don't know economic interests in play involving weapons and energy that enrich western oligarchs that literally nobody wants their children to die over?
Hmmm....is this one of those crusades that sack Constantinople instead of defending the holy land?

The US is, and has been, spending those billions in order to sustain its political hegemony.
You know this.

Yes, except for the inconvenient that the actual people of actual Ukraine are being invaded by a despotic criminal neighbour.

Paranoid conspiracy theories don't stop that.
Weapons and supplies do
Yes. Our "political hegemony".
This doesn't benefit the average American which has been my point.
You know this.
It does not benefit us, the American people ( not the political and corporate elite), to pretend to defend Europe against the evil bolsheviks who are trying to defile sacred democracy and capitalism.
It's a horseshit scam that Europeans don't even take that seriously which is obvious through the contributions.
It's a typical proxy war between the US and Russia. That's what it is and the Ukrainian people are the unfortunate pawns being sacrificed. Uk is probably more like a rook.
Not sure who I would consider to be the queen.
But we all know who the king is.

Milley provided an oblique answer to this question today: "You're looking at well over 100,000 Russian soldiers killed and wounded," Milley said in remarks at the Economic Club of New York. "Same thing probably on the Ukrainian side." (Source)
Milley also discussed the possibility of negotiations:
Milley said it’s possible the Russians will use the retreat to reset their troops for a spring offensive, but “there’s also an opportunity here, a window of opportunity for negotiation.” But for negotiations to have a chance, both Russia and Ukraine would have to reach a “mutual recognition” that a military victory “is maybe not achievable through military means, and therefore you need to turn to other means,” Milley said, citing the end of World War I as an example. (Source)
More on the possibility for diplomacy:
Some U.S. and Western officials think neither side can win and see winter as a shot at diplomacy in Ukraine-Russia war
Some U.S. and Western officials increasingly believe that neither side can achieve all of their goals in the Ukraine war and are eyeing the expected winter slowdown in fighting as an opportunity for diplomacy to begin between Russia and Ukraine, officials familiar with the matter say. Western defense officials question Ukraine’s ability to remove Russian troops completely from occupied areas, and if military operations on the ground stabilize over the winter that could underline that neither side is likely to achieve its goal of controlling the whole country, the officials said. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly on matters of diplomacy. “In the winter, everything slows down,” said a Western official with direct knowledge of military operations. “The potential for talks, we would like to see that happening”...

(B) is irrelevent.
(A) The US should negotiate directly with Russia and be willing to accept no more US encroachment of US weapons or troops near Russia's borders. That would mean no more aid for Ukraine and no more NATO but Ukraine will probably lose pro Russian eastern and southeastern areas.
A lot of specifics can be worked out in those negotiations.

U.S. races to shore up European support for Ukraine strategy
U.S. officials are increasingly worried about keeping their allies on board with Washington’s approach to countering Russia in Ukraine as economic pressures grow across Europe. American officials based in Europe are issuing internal warnings to Washington colleagues that some countries with populations that support Russia are growing angry over sanctions and blame the U.S. for rising costs. That sentiment could put pressure on European leaders to pull back support for the sanctions, officials said in internal reports circulated throughout the administration in recent days and viewed by POLITICO...
Italy has been a strong supporter of Ukraine — but that is starting to change
When Italy's new right-wing coalition government was sworn in last month, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni vowed to continue her country's staunch support and military assistance for Ukraine. Her stance hasn't changed but as Europe braces for its first winter without Russian gas supplies, and thermostats are turned down with households struggling to pay rising utility rates, there is concern that Italians are getting tired of the war, of sending ever-larger quantities of weapons to Ukraine, and would like Ukraine and Russia to settle their differences at the negotiation table rather than the battlefield...

Shitbag thinks when someone forcefully enters your home and takes your shit, they should be 'negotiated with'. You can turn your Man Card in, Shitbag.
Putin should be willing to talk about a ceasefire by then.
Given where things are in the U.S. and Europe (see posts above), as well as what Milley said about Ukrainian casualties, both sides should probably be talking about a ceasefire soon.
