Is it because we test more?

Is it because we test more? I’ve read two articles today from CNN about younger men who have been seriously impacted or died from Covid. With a little research, which I had to do because the journalist didn’t present it, I found pictures of both men. They were both morbidly obese, with one of them being extremely large even after 2.5 months in a hospital bed on sedatives. And here is another CNN output which fails to even mention the very strong link between obesity and serious Covid complications. Why? Stupidity? Political reasons? I don’t know. The link is there, and it’s obvious. Wouldn’t be surprised if the US, with 4% of the population, also has 25% of morbidly obese people. Be healthier and weak viruses won’t end your existence.

Doctor: "OMG this patient has extremely low levels of oxygen in his blood! He should already be dead! Amazing. Put him on a ventilator right now!"
Older Nurse: "Yes doc. Right away!"
Worried Patient: "But doc, do I really need to be drugged out, unconscious, helpless, with a tube shoved down my throat on a machine?"
Doctor: "Of course! Science has spoken! Nurse put him under."
Older Nurse: "It is the way."
Afterwards...
Young Nurse: "Is that really necessary? I mean he was conscious, coherent, and didn't seem to be dying from a lack of oxygen. Plus we don't have the resources to properly monitor him."
Doctor: "Shush, young one. The science machine said his oxygen level was so low that he should have been dead already. We have no other choice. Science has spoken."
Older nurse: "It is the way."
Several hours later, as they are looking over the dead patient...
Doctor with a dramatic sigh: "Damn, another one! This virus is killing everyone. Nothing we do seems to help! We need more ventilators! Chalk him down as another covid death."
Older nurse: "Yes, more ventilators. Science has spoken."
Young nurse: "Wouldn't common sense suggest that we try something else? The stats show something like 90% of the people we put on ventilators...die. Perhaps we should start with less intrusive treatments that require less resources to properly monitor the patient?"
Doctor gasps in outrage, "How dare you question science!!! How dare you!"
Older nurse chuckles: "Forgive him. He is still young and doesn't understand that people who have common sense listen to science and the science has already spoken."
Thousands of deaths later they finally figure out that they weren't listening to the science.

Wow, Johnathan Swift meets Josef Mengele. Let them all die. Well unfortunately there has been an unwillingness by many to question the science, or more accurately to question the interpretations of the science that lead to undemocratic policy decisions that negatively effect millions of people.

No, Trump has made this into his Katrina all by himself:
Trump Falsely Claims ‘99 Percent’ of Virus Cases Are ‘Totally Harmless’
President Trump dismissed the severity of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States over the weekend, downplaying the impact of the disease and saying that while the testing of tens of millions of American had identified many cases, “99 percent” of them were “totally harmless.”
His remarks about a virus that has already claimed nearly 130,000 lives were perplexing. The coronavirus is surging across the Sunbelt states and has rebounded in California. At least 2.8 million Americans have been infected, and public health officials have said the real number of infections may be 10 times higher.
WHAT WAS SAID
Likewise, testing — there were no tests for a new virus, but now we have tested over 40 million people. But by so doing, we show cases, 99 percent of which are totally harmless. Results that no other country will show, because no other country has testing that we have — not in terms of the numbers or in terms of the quality.
False. No matter how you define harmless, most public health experts and respected coronavirus disease models would flatly contradict Mr. Trump’s assessment.
Calculating the toll of a rapidly moving pandemic while it is still raging is a Sisyphean feat, with outbreaks popping up in different parts of the country, even as improvements in care and new therapies curb mortality rates.

Thousands of deaths later they finally figure out that they weren't listening to the science.
Do you really think anyone buys that scenario ?? Then I suppose the poorly informed still do ..
COVID-19 has given ventilators an undeservedly bad reputation, says Dr. Colin Cooke, an associate professor of medicine in the division of pulmonary and critical care at the University of Michigan.
"It's always disheartening to know that some people are out there saying if you end up on a ventilator it's a death sentence, which is not what we are experiencing — and I don't think it's what the data are showing," Cooke says.
Early reports from China, the United Kingdom and Seattle found mortality rates as high as 90% among patients on ventilators. And more recently, a study of some New York hospitals seemed to show a mortality rate of 88%.
But Cooke and others say the New York figure was misleading because the analysis included only patients who had either died or been discharged. "So folks who were actually in the midst of fighting their illness were not being included in the statistic of patients who were still alive," he says.
Those patients made up more than half of all the people in the study.
"The number of patients with critical care needs was more than triple the normal levels," says Dr. Michelle Ng Gong, chief of critical care medicine at Montefiore and a professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
To cope, regular hospital wards became intensive care units, critical care teams worked extra shifts, and heart doctors found themselves caring for lung patients.
Weeks later, it's still too soon to calculate mortality rates precisely, Gong says. "We still have a large number of patients on mechanical ventilation in our intensive care unit," she says. "So the outcomes of those patients is still uncertain."
But Gong adds that when it comes to COVID-19 patients on ventilators, "We win more than we lose."
Come on Lom .. At least try to keep up with the science..

See they made people wear masks in 1918! 50 million people died. Success! Moron. It does make me wonder why all the health agencies just a couple months ago were telling us NOT to wear masks.

Makes me wonder why you reflexively pursue the flaw rather than the logic. Oh I understand the logic. The health agencies freaked the fuck out. They thought this was going to be way worse than it is. They thought it was going to be so bad that wearing masks or other standard health suggestions wouldn't matter. They decided to pursue a policy of protecting the "essential" population instead of doing what they should have been doing. Looking out for the most vulnerable. They wanted to secure the supply chain and ensure that who they deemed essential were more protected. It's fucking sickening. They've ruined millions of lives. Millions worldwide will likely starve to death over this because these "scientists" panicked prematurely.
