Is "someone told me" your version of Trump's favorite dodge, "I heard..."?
In any case, if you were somehow able to validate what someone told you, what of it? I heard that the REASON why top health authorities in the USA were not recommending the general population wear face masks was because PPE type masks - i.e., N95 masks that protect the wearer - were in short supply and needed to be reserved for health care professionals whose responsibility was the survival of people with severe cases of Covid-19.
Of course, we might wonder WHY N95 masks were in such short supply. Could it be that Trump ignored the pandemic for months too long, and this resulted in the PPE shortage? Could it be that once it was agreed that wearing a simple cloth mask could help flow the spread of the virus by blocking droplets, that top health authorities started recommending that?
IMHO, ideally, there should be enough N95 masks so that everybody who wanted one, could wear one. The next best thing is for everyone in public gatherings, closed spaces, etc. at least wear a face mask (non N95) to help prevent infected individuals from spreading the virus.
Oh, but no, let's ignore these facts and refuse to so squat to fight this pandemic. You know, because it's just too damn inconvenient to think about others.

Yes, yes it is.
The government rightfully feared the effect public demand would put on the limited supply, of which everything needed to go to first responders, hospitals, and those dealing directly with the infected. It was quite obvious at the time and I'm somewhat perplexed by how that's been weaponized and misremembered.

Yes, yes it is.
The government rightfully feared the effect public demand would put on the limited supply, of which everything needed to go to first responders, hospitals, and those dealing directly with the infected. It was quite obvious at the time and I'm somewhat perplexed by how that's been weaponized and misremembered.
To which should be added, once it was realized that a simple cloth or paper mask could help prevent a carrier from infecting others, and the government restricted the sale of N95 masks and gear to health professionals only, the recommendation changed to have everyone wear a simpler and much cheaper face mask in public places.

That's because it's being weaponized against those who choose not to wear a mask by citing models that suggest had we all been wearing masks sooner that so many thousands of cases might have been prevented. Well perhaps more people would have been wearing masks sooner had these agencies not stated not to do so. They specifically told the people to not take basic precautionary steps in order to protect those they deemed more valuable to society. People might be struggling with accepting their bullshit any longer. |

I’ve seen seen I many posts claiming the experts said from the start we should all wear masks - so I’m shocked that as late as March this claim is certainly false.
Covid has been studied for a very long time.

People get infected when they socialize with others for any real length of time. Good thing is it's mostly harmless to the vast majority of those infected. Stop freaking out. And stop celebrating gleefully that others get infected. |

Right on cue with the sudden rise in cases that has occurred over the last ~two weeks, Florida reported its highest single day death toll today. Won’t be surprised if several other states that have had a case spike gets similar results.
