BTW ... I would argue Fauci's and the CDC's advice against wearing masks, and saying they're not useful, was more influential than Trump on the mask wearing issue.

Except here's the flaw in your analogy. (Even tho I'm sure you already know how bad analogies are at convincing anyone of anything but rather just get people to focus on the differences rather than the similarities.)
Children do fall down stairs and hurt themselves. They don't contract the Wuhan Flu and die.
I want you to understand exactly why I'm being honest. I don't mind standing out in a crowd. I've even shared on the boards stories about how I deliberately go out of my way to stand out in a crowd. Put a Dole banana sticker on your cheek and walk around with it all day once. Watch how many people come close to physically assaulting you to try to remove it.
Not wearing a mask is as much standing out in a crowd as wearing one.
Wearing a mask tells me you're anti science. Not the science behind mask wearing making it so people who won't cover their mouths when they cough safer. The science behind this entire pandemic. It tells me you pay more attention to journalists and politicians than you do scientists. While you trumpet your faith in dogma.

Coming from rural Trump country myself, that has been my experience as well. And, most of the people around here that that I have heard being vocal about refusing to mask have made some comment about the mask not protecting the wearer, making the wearer an idiot/sheep/fool, etc. In other words, they are displaying their ignorance. They make as much sense as one who mocks the parent of a toddler for installing a childproof gate at the top of the stairs. "It won't prevent you from falling down the stairs, IDIOT! It's too short! HAHAHAHA! You're just a sheep! Nobody's gonna tell ME to install a gate on my stairs!" Whatever. I wear the mask when I go shopping to help me not spread it if I'm a carrier. But I agree with you, a PSA is much, much preferable to a law. Honestly, I think, and have thought from the beginning, that the refusal to wear a mask is rooted more in the fear of standing out in a crowd that anything else. Everything I've seen and read since then has reinforced than initial assessment. At least Queshank is honest about the fact that how people look (and how he would look) in the mask has affected his decision.

Queshank I have to be honest, Q. I don't find much of this particularly compelling. My understanding of the science is that COVID-19 is particularly rough on the elderly and those with weakened systems or other complications. I wear the mask to help protect them, not to virtue signal or anything else. It's the same reason I put the gate on my stairs, although I'll freely admit I love my kids more than strangers. Still, there's no significant cost to me and, as I understand it, a benefit to a decent chunk of the population. Not to mention the fact that, in a few weeks, I'll be spending most of my waking hours around hundreds of teenagers again and the rest of my time around two little ones who spend most of their time around hundreds of little ones. Next to nurses and doctors, I'll probably be among the most likely group of carriers in the country. I don't get the politicization of the mask thing. I think we've lost our collective minds.

But I'm not trying to compel you to changing your beliefs Maestro. That's the role you're adopting in this.
I mean no offense with this but I simply don't care about convincing you. I'm tired. Of all of it. Of going through and trying to unravel "the narrative" that becomes reality simply because it's the most oft repeated story in a media even the most partisan of leftists will candidly admit they know is biased in their direction. I'm ready for America's divorce between the people who want a government apparatus put in place to force people to think, believe and behave the way they do, and the people who want to cling to their individual humanity. And while it's been rough, I've made my peace with the chips where they've fallen.
I don't get the politicization of the mask thing either. It started when people started trying to 'compel' people to behave and believe like they do. Just another arrow in their quiver of compliance. It started as an uphill push, considering our national experts had already said they weren't necessary, but the media campaign for this placebo was a full court press.
I just know there's more studies about the negative impact on respiration involving mask wearing and the concern for frontline workers being in masks for too long than there are studies demonstrating a positive impact with mask wearing in the general population. I'm over here wondering how often those people are washing those cloth masks with bitchin' Mortal Kombat designs they ordered on Amazon.
As for your dismay about people still sharing memes about how cloth masks won't protect them ...
Fauci and the CDC originally said masks weren't useful and weren't helpful. It's actually China's CDC and the WHO that started pushing mask wearing. (It's why I called mask wearers Chinese peasants.)
When Fauci came out and suggested he lied to the American people... he said they wanted to keep the mask supply to protect "front line workers." How come he didn't say the policy should be to put masks on the patients if that's how masks work?
BTW ...I don't think Fauci lied the first time. I think it's more he was pushed into accepting masks as a placebo to calm a public gone a bit wild from a month of media fearmongering.
You're a smart guy. And I respect you a ton. I'm talking in the context of society in general. It's not you I have a problem with. I'm just mixing my beliefs in with a bit of bombastic style. You and mojo both are smart people who have decided not to worry about it. To go with the flow. If there's even a 1% benefit, it's worth it. That's fine. You guys aren't the normal among the mask wearing crowd, just like I'm not the normal among the "refuse to wear masks" crowd. There's just as many people wearing a mask thinking they're protecting themselves in the "mask wearer" column as there are on the "not wearing em" side of the ledger. Enough to where I think there's enough stupid to go around.

And that is where you are quite wrong. The most authoritative study out there so far has shown that wearing a face mask reduces the transmission of infectious viral particles - from the wearer to others. That's why I say people like you who are so proud of "standing out in a crowd" by flaunting mask rules are arrogant selfish inconsiderate piggish anti-science disease vectors.

For years, Japanese tourists in Hawaii walked around wearing masks. I always thought that was a bit weird. But that is what they do. Now, thanks to the virus, more and more people are wearing them. But even Japan doesn’t *REQUIRE* its people to wear masks. I find the idea to be quite intrusive.

That may be because of the Japanese culture, where those who know they are ill will voluntarily wear face masks in public without being required, in order to prevent themselves from harming others. Americans, on the other hand, have to be coaxed into it.

As for the rest of your rant, what the fuck do you mean by "the science behind this entire pandemic"
Are you denying there is a pandemic in process?
Or that the pandemic is due to Covid-19?
Or are you just being contrary and obtuse, as usual?

No Odysseuse. I read that. It's under the "symptomatic" carriers part of the study that I already addressed.
I'm pointing out you've got the science on this pandemic wrong. And based on that bad, politically motivated science, you're helping destroy our economy, the futures of our children, and impoverish African Americans at a time when they were experiencing record low shootings from law enforcement and record high employment and record low incarceration rates. Guys like you killed George Floyd ... an "unessential" restaurant worker trying to buy a pack of cigarettes ... just as much as Derek Chauvin did.
And based on those same politically influenced news reports about the science on this, you're trying to further politicize and divide America over this pandemic by insisting Asymptomatic people wear masks. Using studies that suggest Symptomatic people wear masks, but filtered through a healthy dose of political spin.
The science on the pandemic you're getting wrong is the concern we should have over this pandemic. Driven like the rest of the mass hysterias in the past few years ... by the cynical drive for any narrative, no matter how stretched and thin, that will damage Trump's presidency. Because politics sells to the tribal. And CNN/MSNBC/NYTimes/WaPo was raking in the dough with this approach just like Fox News did using the same approach vis a vis Obama.
We have known who is vulnerable since *before* the pandemic reached our shores. The science that has come out since has only reinforced that knowledge, and continuously driven the fatality rate lower as we find out first it was here months before we thought, and second 80% .. and likely more ... of those carrying the disease went undetected. Some of our finest researchers and minds have been pointing this out since March. And instead of their studies receiving any credibility, they were shouted down by politicians and news outlets defending their "shut down everything" overreaction. Helped by willing puppets like yourself.
If you don't know whether you're vulnerable to this virus yet ... you're an idiot. And if you do know whether or not you're vulnerable, and still want to destroy people's lives and livelihoods to keep YOU safe because you're vulnerable and don't think it should have any impact on your life ... "selfish jerk" doesn't even come close to describing you. "Worthy of the death the virus may bring you" seems more fitting.

Yet here are you crying as if it is. Why are you crying and looking like a coward? Because the media and government tells you to. They've manipulated you into believing that this thing is so serious that we had to crash our economy and give up all our rights. You are a sheep. Incapable of independent thought and analysis. There is absolutely no logic behind your argument.
