It's intriguing - to me - that more people were upset over the withdrawal from Afghanistan than they are U.S. troops being attacked in an illegal war. Just judging solely the response on this board.

SourceWell, if you are remaining in Syria for the purpose of countering Iran, you can probably expect them to respond. We have no clear mission in Syria; there is no legal authorization for US military action; and we're putting troops in harm's way to no clear purpose.

SourceSourceCan we just admit that our efforts to overthrow Assad (which only aided chaos within the country and helped open it up to ISIS) have failed and GTFO.

SourceNot only are we in Syria illegally and operating with no real purpose, especially at Al Tanf, but now we're getting drawn into Israel's shadow war with Iran. Wonderful. GTFO already.

And again... SourceWe need to get out of Syria. Our troops are targets for no good reason while we're there illegally.

Who and what party is in charge of our country at this time? How are they doing?

Who and what party is in charge of our country at this time? How are they doing? Since Syria is a bipartisan fuckup, not sure your question is relevant.

To be fair, it was trump that removed the US troops from Syria save for a few hundred to guard the Syrian oil wells. With the US gone, and the Kurds left to fend for themselves, what else did you expect to happen?

With the US gone, and the Kurds left to fend for themselves, what else did you expect to happen? None of those troops ultimately left. They were moved out of a section of Northern Syria and temporarily into Iraq, then went back into Syria. At best, you could call it a tactical withdrawal, which had more to with U.S.-Turkey relations.

Just saying what? It was basically a tactical withdrawal. They left part of Northern Syria, allowing Turkey to come in. They were temporarily in Iraq, came back into Syria and there are 900 troops on the ground (pretty much what was there at the time of the "withdrawal"). Also, the troops at Al Tanf - who were the target of the drone attack in the post you quoted - were never part of this faux withdrawal.

Why do you consistently leave out the part where the troops were left to guard the oil fields?

Why do you consistently leave out the part where the troops were left to guard the oil fields? Where do I leave that out? What thread do you think you're posting in ffs? Why not go back and start with the very first page. I was pointing that your claim that only a few hundred were left is wrong. Pretty much all of the troops that were in Syria stayed in Syria. And the troops in Al Tanf aren't guarding any oil; never have been.
