The US economy contracted at a 32.9% annual rate from April through June, its worst drop on record, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said Thursday.
Business ground to a halt during the pandemic lockdown in the spring of this year, and America plunged into its first recession in 11 years, putting an end to the longest economic expansion in US history.
A recession is commonly defined as two consecutive quarters of declining gross domestic product — the broadest measure of the economy. Between January and March, GDP declined by an annualized rate of 5%.

And most of us know that if he is reelected and the new vaccine works, we will almost instantly be back on the road uphill again to make America great again. If he is not reelected and the Marxist democrats take over, it will be the end of America as it was meant to be, the best country in the world. You will be living in a new Venezuela under the (D) leadership. We already have riots in the street being backed by the (D) party. I would have given them 24 hours to leave. No gym for a while again. My kids are on my back to stay home, and my neighbor that works at a hospital said stay home for a while. She is a nurse too but she has a different job there. Boring, I want to paint that cement floor but rain after rain and I can’t. Maybe I will take a ride and look at some gun safes. I did go shooting yesterday, fair weather. 30 rounds slow fire, 30 rounds timed fire, 30 rounds rapid fire and all went well. I love that S&W model 41.

I think it is cute that our right-wing friends want to pretend the economy was all roses until Covid came along.
In reality, the economy was weakening and needed to be artificially propped up by government stimulus. Don't believe me? Go back to 2019 and read the Fed's announcements about trade headwinds causing them to abort their normalization plan, returning to an easy money policy: low rates and credit creation.

Let's say he for argument's sake Trump acted two months earlier. What aggressive steps would you have liked him to take...now wait for it...that would have beaten the virus by now. Please be specific. Our best medical minds are working on it and there's no way of "beating it" right now. I'm not even sure what beating it means. So what should have done that would have beaten it? Mandatory face masks and social distancing.
Aggressive contact tracing.

Couldn't it be possible that like Fauci and Birx, his position has evolved and he simply was wrong initially? What makes you think if was anyone but Trump, it would somehow be different? The doctors are allowed to err but not the president who is following their lead. How would we have beaten it by now if it wasn't Trump in the Oval Office? Let's try to discuss this without the antagonism. I'm asking you a reasonable question since I believe that you truly feel Trump mishandled it. By the way, I'm enjoying a 16 oz Coors Banquet Beer. When it was determined that face masks and distancing were a benefit, it should have been a national mandate that everyone do so. It STILL, even today, is not. Trump decided to turn the scientific community's recommendations into political footballs. When your doctor tells you to take an antibiotic, or chemotherapy, it is not an attack on your freedoms. It's to keep you alive and healthy. Trump is not an expert in anything science, so he should have listened to what his experts said, but instead, he listened to his gut. You may think that's a super quality, and in business, it may be a distinct advantage, but in a pandemic, it is moronic.
Bottom line is we are going to see WAY more deaths than necessary, and they are STILL preventable.
When's he going to act like a president?
