I'm in favor of reparations, but it should be funded only by states of the former Confederacy. so no reparations from slave holding northern states? Seems more like war reparations than slave reparations. |

Slavery existed in some new england states up to 1804. Maryland, Delaware, and Kentucky still had slavery up until the civil war. |

Slavery existed in some new england states up to 1804. Maryland, Delaware, and Kentucky still had slavery up until the civil war. NJ held slaves after the Civil War. |

Not one person of color today has anything to do with the slavery of 100+ years ago, just as no white (or Native American) has anything to do with the slavery of 100+ years ago. If the war was only about slavery, then I would be forced to agree with you, but you well know it was not.
So saying that the white people who died in the Civil War, fighting for whatever reason they chose, duly compensates hundreds of years of owning other humans, is a logic I fail to follow.
If you believe that no people of today experience the consequences of not dealing with reparations around our national sin of allowing slavery, then how do you explain the civil rights movement? How do you explain all the data around blacks being killed more often, of them having a more difficult time getting loans or progressing in the workplace. Are you saying that black people are just lazy and stupid? Or do you agree that their is systemic racism in this country.

No more than I am saying every trailer park dwelling white person is lazy..  and no I absolutely do not agree that there is systemic racism.. Racism yes, there will ALWAYS be some form of racism in the world and not just against Blacks, but that will never change, but in the US.. absolutely not systemic. |

Even in the 1860's, the American System favored by Lincoln was heavily dependent on tax/tariff revenue from the South.

This is why reparations should be made by our country, and not just individuals. We accepted slavery, as a Nation, in our founding documents.
