We can deal with violent protestors without secret police and gestapo tactics, and without interfering with legitimate protest. Your approach all but guarantees an escalation of violence. Responsible folks generally want to de-escalate. You and Trump are in a class all your own (one that is profoundly illiberal).

These idiots only know violence, and that means returning fire, and with interest. They are escalating the violence, so let them deal with the consequences.

If force must be used it should be used in a transparent and lawful way. Your question almost contains within it the suggestion that we must gas and beat peaceful people in order to deal with violent protestors.

No. My method would be to identify and shoot the violent protesters, vandals and looters on the spot. Gas wouldn’t need to be involved. And seriously, “transparent and lawful way”? Are these violent protesters, looters and vandals being transparent and lawful? Like I said, you fight fire with fire.

"Protestors" have made this personal. I would not be surprised if these men were granted the cover of anonymity because they refused to do their jobs without it. If "protestors" want to use dirty tactics and personalize their politics, why are we surprised when their opposition evolves right along with them?
Personally I think "protestors" stop having legitimacy when they start blocking traffic and involving people in their hobbies. Wanna march down the sidewalks with signs, gather in parks to chant their propaganda in creepy cult like call and response demonstrations, by all means. I don't think "Oh my god that's horrible" when I read yet *another* story about protestors getting run over. I think "Well that was pretty predictable."
There's a lot of definitions of "legitimate" in play.

You need to leave LNF right now.
You lost a bet that you proposed and you agreed that your punishment for your loss would be for you to be on a six month timeout.
If you persist in posting you will be forever branded as a liar, cheat, and all around nuisance.

NPR is well known for there bias, when it comes to what is going on in Portland pictures speak loud and clear. These are not law enforcement wearing uniforms with no identifying markings, it doesnt take long to dismiss that as propaganda from the left If your ppolice look like that for a bit of rioting, something is badly wrong.

For those who are historically astute (a rarity on LNF, based on other threads), the "Nazi" parallel is closer to the Munich Beer Hall Putsch of 1923. Ironically, the crackdown by police ultimately bolstered Hitler's rise to power; we may see the same effect of elevating the political power of the protest movement.
Rock and a hard place.
If you were actually historically astute, you would know Hitler's real rise to power wasn't a failed beer hall putsch but the 1933 Enabling Act that centralized power and allowed him to put down protests and dissidents with no legal restraints as soon as Hindenburg died. Our Dear Orange Leader would love to have such power, since he is a huge fan of centralized executive power.

Jeeze Louise, What a bunch of baloney all of this has become. People, particularly on the left, seemingly giving the okey dokey for destroying govt and private citizens property. Sure, break all the windows you want, burn down private businesses or govt buildings, loot the businesses if you see something you want, the cops have been told by the Political Leaders (dems) to stand down, so you won't get into any trouble, and what else is there to do on a weekend, anyway?
Now, the POTUS has acted to stop the destruction, and he is the one who the people are angry with. I will never understand what has taken over our nation and pulled it away from being a Republic. Heck, do the protesters even know what a Republic is?
As for the "Moms" in yellow, who now are being treated just like the Dads in the mess. And the Moms are complaining. Wake up, little ones. That's what you wanted when NOW came into existence, Reap what you have sown and quit your bitchn.

"Proactively arresting people" is what we do with terrorists, no? Arrest them before the damage is done?
If we had credible intelligence of the 9/11 attackers should we not have picked them up? Gotta wait for them to actually commit a crime first?
Have you seen photos of the federal courthouse in Portland? I haven't read that guy's tower of rationalizations for the "unconstitutionality" argument yet. Our Constitution is pretty simple. You don't need a tower of rationalizations for why something is either in line with it or out of line. "Unpack" seems like code for "Let me tell you what this *really* means."

We typically don't arrest people - proactively or otherwise - without probable cause. There isn't a tower of rationalizations. It comes down to: they didn't have probable cause for the arrest.

Notice that Drumpf is proposing to send his storm troopers only to Democratic controlled cities and states. So when the voters there express their disgust at his neo-nazi program, it won't affect his electoral vote score as much.
But he is still likely to lose in November. In the meantime, expect him to try to pull every dirty trick in the book - including getting Putin's help.

The irony is all of these violent protests seem to be in democrat run cities. Often led by a black motor or black police chief.
Are there any republicans controlled or led cities experiencing the horrific rioting and looting and killing and destruction of property?

This is exactly why he's overstepping his authority, to cater to ^this^ view. It's not about the destruction! of federal buildings, or even private property...this is about keeping the base worked up a few months before the election.

Do you think Democrats' coddling and manipulating the narrative around these is any different? They're hoping to channel and ride that "worked up" base of theirs to victory in November. And for the thread at large ... it's awfully hard to get worked up about this ... a perfectly normal activity for our federal government (does nobody remember the 50s and 60s??) ... while not getting worked up by the abuses to civil liberties and the Constitution being perpetrated by our state governors *daily.* THOSE are unprecedented abuses. And yet people freaking out about federal officers rounding up kids dressed in black running around in the middle of the night destroying federal property all seem perfectly okay with that. Mind....blown. But ... not surprised leftist will eat whatever bullshit the media spoonfeeds them at this point. Kinda been warning about it for a few years now. Just hard to take the selective outrage seriously. Queshank
