I've been listening to NBC News playing in the background while in the house taking a break from playing with puppies in the back yard. (Exhausting work I tells ya!)
They keep talking about those ambitious governors lining up to step into Biden's shoes.
If there's a politician eager for Biden to drop out so they can slip into that seat ... they're morons. Legitimately. Especially the younger ones that can wait til 2028.
First, you can convince me any of the politicians in the running aren't aware the ThReAt To DeMoCrAcY is anything but a campaign slogan. Second ... why the fuck would anybody want to go up against Trump in this environment? The only "politician" that polls well against Trump and beats him is Michelle Obama ffs. She's not even a politician and has gone on record repeatedly as having no interest. I don't think she even had interest in her husband being president. Why tf would she want the 4 years of angst the presidency would bring?
Let Biden take the L. Spend 4 more years fundraising and riling up the base fearmongering about racism. Profit in 2028.
Because a candidate starting up now ... is so far behind the curve they're not gonna be in any better position than Biden. Who hasn't really experienced any polling fallout from the debates.
I still don't see Biden stepping down. When the hubbub dies down it'll be celebrated as "Biden always pulls it out when it matters!" The news is saying they "don't see how" Biden turns this around. lol. Really? Really? Don't see how? My ass.

Give it another week and Biden will be championed as the "comeback kid!" defying expectations. The Democrats will be saying "Never count Joe Biden out!"
The fact that they're the only ones talking about it will only occur to a few.
Polls taken before Thursday all largely deliver the same answer: any Biden alternative — Vice President Kamala Harris, Govs. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Gavin Newsom of California, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg — performed about the same, or worse, than Biden against Trump when voters were asked how they’d vote in head-to-head matchups.
Any of those is fully aware they would take another hit in polling once they jumped into the hotseat and stopped being a hypothetical.

Fuck no lol.
I won't be voting in November. This'll be my 3rd presidential election I sit out. I'll vote when the American people figure their shit out. I'm not interested in strengthening either side. And I'm not going to wait in line or interrupt my day to make a meaningless "statement" by voting 3rd party when I think the 3rd party options on our state's ballot are delusional as well.

So now I'm wondering... who did you vote for in 2004 and 2008? Obama, McCain, or Romney?

So now I'm wondering... who did you vote for in 2004 and 2008? Obama, McCain, or Romney?
That's right you weren't here.
I assume you mean 2008 and 2012? In 2008 I voted Obama with enthusiasm. He was all full of promises of ending America's stupid wars. In 2012 I voted for him with reluctance and bitter irritation cuz .. a Mormon as the other option? Really? In 2024? Obama abandoning all of his beliefs and principles (The Corruption of Obama I call it) was still better than a guy who is a full grown man still adhering to Mormonism. (To any Mormons reading this ... you know you an just be a Christian and be a decent person right? You don't gotta be a Joseph Smith acolyte.)
I didn't vote in 2004. I moved from Ohio to Minnesota that year around election time and wasn't registered to vote in either state. I probly woulda voted Bush the Younger to punish the terrible campaign and terrible candidate the Dems put forth tho if I had voted. In 2000 I voted for Al Gore. That vote was one of the only 2 votes I've ever cast FOR a candidate. (Obama in 2008 being the other.) I can proudly say that as a liberal, I voted against Clinton in 1992 and 1996.

CNN has an argument that Kamala Harris plus Gretchen Whitmer as VP is a winning ticket.
I don't really disagree. My question is .. why would Kamala Harris and Gretchen Whitmer want to throw their hat in this ring?
My theory is that all of Biden's potential successors the media is trying to draft are all expressing support for Biden because they have no interest in the campaign and are just fine with him taking the lumps. (Goes back to my elder abuse theory.)
I kinda wonder if a "GIRL POWER!" message without Hillary on the ticket would be enough.

Harris has so much baggage with zero accomplishments as vp. Notably the ones Biden put her in charge of. Every failure she had she blamed on climate change. I was going to fix Central America to stop the flood of illegals, but climate change. Whitmer is a smaller version of newsom. I’m in Michigan now and I’ve never seen so many f ___k Biden signs. Even close to Detroit. They put her in the same bucket as him. Paying 150 for two bags of groceries that used to cost 75 dollars and being told prices haven’t changed isn’t inspiring.

Washington CNN —
President Joe Biden told congressional Democrats in a letter on Monday that he will continue his reelection bid despite mounting concerns about his mental fitness and the viability of his campaign, while also hitting back at party “elites” in an interview ahead of a critical week on Capitol Hill.
“I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump,” Biden wrote in the letter, obtained by CNN.
Biden sought to put growing concerns about his viability to rest in the forcefully worded letter.
I'd like to submit for consideration the theory I've been bandying about in this thread ...
No one else wants the job.
Biden might be a stubborn old goat. He might even honestly believe he's the only one who can beat Trump.
But he also might be taking the hit for the "up and comers" who could have their political careers destroyed by a loss to Trump. He might be stuck with the speculated backbenchers telling him privately "Stay in Joe. I ain't doing it."

The simple answer is we will all know after the DNC. if I were the ones actually pulling the strings for the democrats I’d love another Biden presidency and I’d love if even more if Kamala took over at some point. What better puppets. The talk is grandstanding to maintain some semblance of sanity. Tough to keep saying nothing to see.

The relative youngsters would be fine having the job. Pols tend to egotism which often blinds them to political reality. What they don't want is to be seen as the person kicking old Joe when he's down. That will not be an advantage for future candidates. Better to wait and see if Joe decides to call it a day and then go for the possible gold.

So what do you think is going on for ole Joe then?
Does he really think, in Trumpian fashion, that "only he" can defeat Donald Trump?
Is it Trumpian narcissism that keeps him in the race?
Anosognosia maybe?
He recently challenged other politicians to take him on for the convention. My money is on he already knows the rest of the pols that are being discussed publicly have already told him "No way Joe. We've got your back."

Your typical politician's vanity and ego. Only I can do x. Joe's okay, but I LOL whenever he talks about the soul of America. C'mon man. He likes to do the macho bit on occasion. Didn't he challenge someone to a fight. Maybe Donny. They'll have his back but if the situation changes that will suddenly disappear.

I think we have to consider that now that assassination is on the table ... Biden's successors are even less eager to jump into the hot spot. Queshank

It's also interesting that Biden's successors are Democratic party operatives who are weighed on "electability." Whereas Trump's successor was chosen based on his allegiance to a people's movement. Queshank

I doubt that will be a factor in their decision. Assassination is always a possibility, it's just been ratcheted up after the attempt on Donny. Vance was chosen for a number of reasons. He might help Donny in some midwestern states and Trump seems to like him personally. A billionaire and a multi-millionaire have deep concerns about the folks who work at the local Walmart. Why sure they do.

I did. None of them is a billionaire. Interesting if somewhat silly article about Vance today in Politico. Ever since he started Operation Suck Up he's even dressing like Trump. Too funny.

And yet they're all "elite, out of touch" millionaires. None of them having run any kind of business or made money in the private sector like the ones you're criticizing. In other words ... none of them ever had to sully themselves by rubbing elbows with the plebs. Certainly not bagging groceries or serving time in the military like that darn elitist Vance.
Did you know Vance was sucking up to Trump in the very same sentence in which he supposedly called Trump "America's Hitler?" I wonder why this part of what he said is always clipped out: "back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical a–hole like Nixon who wouldn’t be that bad (and might even prove useful) or ..."
Have you read his book? Or watched the netflix movie of his book? I haven't. I tried to watch the Netflix version but Glenn Close was just gross. From everything I've read about it in reviews in the NY Times et al, he and Trump were brothers from another mother long before he started dressing like him. Queshank

I would guess that most of them had some experience working regular jobs and meeting "regular" Americans. Bagging groceries is a noble profession, but I doubt it has much relevance to being TLOTFW. That was pre-suck up in 2016. He did call him America's Hitler. Guess he wasn't a history major. Adding the rest of the quote referring to Nixon doesn't help that much, though it does remind me of the Watergate era joke about Nixon not being half the man Hitler was. Haven't read the book or seen the movie or gone to the musical. If they were brothers why would he be so critical of Trump pre-suck up? I think there are some reviews which question his take on Appalachia or accuse him of just transposing the inner city ghetto to Kentucky.
