Tonight the local PBS station is airing a film classic, "The Yearling". I don't recall ever having seen this flick before. It stars Gregory Peck, Jane Wyman, and Claude Jarman. It was made in 1946, and based on Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings's 1938 novel of the same name.
Oh, deer.

Just caught most of "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?" on the local Fox movie channel. Yeah, commercials, but WTF. It's still a great flick from the early 60's.

Another great PBS show.
"Taken Hostage" which details the Iranian Hostage Crisis, which started in 1979 in the last years of Jimmy Carter's presidency, and finally ended in 1981 just prior to Ronald Reagan's inauguration.
Yeah, I got it on DVD.

Tonight the local PBS station is playing, non-stop, without commercials, the classic film Dr. Zhivago.
Really a great pic.

Last night I started re-watching an American Experience four hour documentary on Bill Clinton. I forgot how good it was. It's in two parts. I watched the first two hour part last night, and am fixing to watch the second two hour part. Bill Clinton was indeed a remarkable president. Like him or not, he was one of a kind. Tonight the local PBS station is rebroadcasting a long video of Concert for George. It features performances by other Beatles, Eric Clapton, among others. 20 years ago. Still fresh.
Here's the summary:
Concert for George 1 hour 58 min On November 29, 2002, one year after the passing of music legend George Harrison, a performance tribute was organized in his honor. Held at London's Royal Albert Hall, the momentous evening featured Harrison's songs and music he loved, performed by a lineup that included Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Jeff Lynne, Monty Python, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Dhani Harrison and many more. Songs include "Here Comes the Sun," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Something," "For You Blue," "All Things Must Pass," "Handle With Care," and "My Sweet Lord."
A more complete list of performers:

Is that the one where Prince showed everybody up on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"?

What great performances in honor of the memory of a great man.
I was heretofore unfamiliar with Jeff Lynne, but he's a great singer. And I had no idea that Prince was so talented on lead guitar. All good.

Currently watching on the local commercial-free PBS station the memorable movie, "The Manchurian Candidate".
Generally a good movie, albeit a bit dated. It stars Laurence Harvey, Frank Sinatra, and James Edwards. This is the 1962 B&W version.
Heres a plot summary from Wikipedia:

Another of what will probably become a classic: "The Movement and the Madman", on the local PBS station last night with a repeat in the early morning.
The Movement is likely the anti-Vietnam War effort in the 1960's. The Madman is none other than US president Richard Nixon.
I lived through those years, albeit when I was under 20 years old, and remember well the sturm und drang that Nixon brought to the world. I also remember joining anti-war protests in my first year in university.
Those were quite turbulent times in America, with a polarized electorate, increasingly anti-war.
Nixon, Kissinger, Erlichman, and Haldeman were all quite evil. IMHO.
Here's the filmakers' summary (second link):

Well, the movie I was referring to is of the name "Pleasantville".
Or is that too much information?

I don't follow pro sports, but I'm no longer unfamiliar with Giannis. What a great answer.
