Last night, local SF PBS station KQED broadcast "The Imitation Game" complete without any commercial breaks. It's the story of legendary pioneering computer scientist Alan Turing, who was pivotal in the British being able to crack the Nazi "Enigma" code, which was pivotal for the Allied victory over the fascist powers in WW2. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Turing as an adult, a very impressive performance. It's also full of twists and turns which I found spell binding. Here's a review: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Imitation_GameThe Imitation Game is a 2014 American historical drama film directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Graham Moore, based on the 1983 biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges. The film's title quotes the name of the game cryptanalyst Alan Turing proposed for answering the question "Can machines think?", in his 1950 seminal paper "Computing Machinery and Intelligence". The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Turing, who decrypted German intelligence messages for the British government during World War II. Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, and Mark Strong appear in supporting roles. The Imitation Game was released theatrically in the United States on November 28, 2014. The film grossed over $233 million worldwide on a $14 million production budget, making it the highest-grossing independent film of 2014. It received eight nominations at the 87th Academy Awards, winning for Best Adapted Screenplay, five nominations at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, and three nominations at the 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards. It also received nine BAFTA nominations, and won the People's Choice Award at the 39th Toronto International Film Festival. The film was criticized by some for its inaccurate portrayal of historical events, and for downplaying Turing's homosexuality, a key element of his original struggles. However, the LGBT civil rights advocacy organization the Human Rights Campaign honored it for bringing Turing's legacy to a wider audience with its subtle and realistic approach.

Recently retrieved a set of old movies from the shelf.
Finished watching "The Blue Max", which is about German pilot's efforts to gain recognition for his skills in WWI in France. The Blue Max is a special award, similar to others awarded by other nations, but a bit unique in its design.
George Peppard stars as the pilot, and Ursula Andress as his love interest.
I have no idea if it's based on any facts.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. A dark movie that's worth the time. Check out The San Saba Songbird!

Currently watching a DVD collection of the Victory At Sea series. In about 6 episodes of a 26 episode series. Has some pretty good old WW2 footage. Music is a bit funky, as is some of the over-the-top narration. OTOH, it's narrated by the great Leonard Graves. No relation to Peter Graves of Mission Impossible fame. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Graves

Between you, me and the lamppost, I've seen enough footage of WWII for a lifetime already.

Are you being deliberately obtuse?
Why don't you just answer the question?
Here it is again, in case you forgot:
Have you ever watched Victory At Sea?
A simple yes or no will suffice. Or, if you prefer, a simple oui or non.

Why can't you just answer a simple question with a simple answer, without casting baseless charges at the questioner?

Currently "All About Eve" showing on the local Movies! channel.
It's a famous film so I don't feel a need to summarize the plot. In fact I don't feel the need to watch it, although I am recording it to DVD just in case.
Might go back to Victory At Sea.

Wednesday, April 20 11:00 pm KQED 9 Wilder Than Wild: Fire, Forests, and the Future 56 min WILDER THAN WILD: FIRE, FORESTS, AND THE FUTURE reveals how fire suppression and climate change have exposed our forests and wildland-urban landscapes to large, high severity wildfires, while greenhouse gases released from these fires contribute to global warming. In this one-hour documentary, filmmaker Kevin White takes us on a journey from the Rim Fire of 2013 to the wine country wildfires of 2017 and beyond. Along the way, we learn how the proactive use of prescribed fire can reduce reliance on reactive fire suppression, we see a California tribe renew their tradition of cultural fire, and we meet stakeholder groups working with scientists and resource managers to build consensus on how to restore and manage the lands we love and depend on.
