Been watching "Atlantic Crossing" on PBS.
It's generally about the Norwegian royal family during WWII. Primarily about the Crown Princess Martha , as well as the Crown Prince Olav, and how the war affects their lives. Martha journeys to America after the family flees Norway after the German invasion; Olav stays in London. Martha strikes up a friendship with Franklin Roosevelt, although apparently this was somewhat over romanticized in the TV series, as well as other soap operatic aspects.
In any case it's an engaging production that highlights the effects of the war on those at the top of Norwegian society, and their relationship with America.
Highly recommended.

Except for the voice.

Local SF PBS station KQED today is playing the entire Ken Burns "Country Music" series today. Got the DVD recorder going. Yes, there are pledge breaks, but I can always fast forward over those later.
So far what I've seen is really good. Narrated by Peter Coyote. There's also some, or all, of it available online as part of the PBS Passport program:

Watching a very underrated Mel Brooks comedy: High Anxiety.
It's funnier than I remember. It got only two stars in the local TV log, but I think it's much better than that.
It just showed a hilarious scene where Brooks (as a psychiatrist framed for murder) and Madeleine Kahn (as his love interest) are trying to escape through an airport. Brooks hatches an absurd plan where the more obnoxious they are, the less they will be noticed. They play an elderly Jewish couple who argue about everything, including celery. Too funny!

The local PBS station has been playing an interesting Danish series, "Seaside Hotel". It's all in Danish, with subtitles.
Not bad.
It's set in a hotel on the North sea coast of Denmark, from 1928 to 1932. It's described as a drama/comedy.

Remember the Twilight Zone?
It was a big hit during my formative years.

Rod Serling is a regional hero. Anybody within an hour and a half of Binghamton claims him. Kind of like Jon Jones.

What have I been watching lately?
Well, it all started when I noticed a local PBS station was showing ALL of the great series "Downton Abbey" a weekend or two or three ago. I set my DVD recorder, but the big problem was that at least at prime time hours, there were waaaay too many pledge breaks. Like 30 minutes of pledge breaks for every 56 minutes of Abbey. So I gave up recording it. I got on Amazon and found a full set for $50, free shipping. Done.
Since then I've been re-watching it from the start, and enjoying it immensely. Plus there are all the little extra bits that the local PBS stations don't usually show, like behind the scenes etc. And then there's the movie version, which I'm saving for last.
Probably hasn't helped my writing much, although last night I suddenly started speaking in what I thought was a passable semi-posh Brit accent.
YMMV

Lately been going through my extensive DVD collection to review old favorites, and some stuff that I bought years ago but never watched.
Go figure.
I'd mention some titles but it might interfere with the Movie Quotes thread. Dang.

Several decades ago I found the wonderful book "My Family and Other Animals" by Gerald Durrell a famed British zoologist. It details their life before WWII on the idyllic Greek island of Corfu. Being somewhat of a naturalist myself, I was entranced by it. I soon found other volumes in the series, but the first one is the best, as is often the case.
The author's family is somewhat renowned, with Gerald's older brother being Lawrence Durrell of some literary fame. The local PBS station is currently re-running a wonderful dramtization of the book(s), titled, unsurprisingly, "The Durrells On Corfu". It's very well acted, written and produced. Catch it if you can!

Local PBS station currently airing the wonderful 1980's comedy of errors, "A Fish Called Wanda", starring Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese, Michael Palin, and Kevin Kline.

Just finished watching "Throw Mama From The Train", a 1987 black comedy film starring Billy Crystal, Danny deVito, and Anne Ramsey (Mama). Oddly, it received zero stars in my local TV guide website. Perhaps an oversight on their part. I thought it was worth at least three of four stars. And I never threw my mama from a train. Honest!
