SourceBecause, you know, training them in country over the past 2 decades has worked so well, training them out of country will work splendidly like all the other times we've tried this. As Elsa says...

Ah yes, just a little longer and with some more training they'll be ready.
LOL, been hearing that the past 18 years...

This is the right thing to do. Indeed.

SourceThis seems like an indictment of 20 years of US policy in Afghanistan.

SourceWe've been training them for 20 years in country and the SIGAR reports have repeatedly shown that Afghan forces are unreliable for many, many reasons [some related to the Afghan government]. For example, see here, here and here. So, now we're going to train out of country and expect that to be better? That they're suddenly going to be trained in Qatar and be able to go back into Afghanistan and do what they haven't been able to? When has that ever worked?

Let 'em in, and don't make it bureaucratically difficult. Better to have some unverified "bad" people slip through than leave good people there, as we all know the slaughter that's coming.

SourceThis is a good start/alternative. Congress needs to pass HR 3985 as fast as it passed the Juneteenth legislation.

SourceWhat's discouraging is how many people don't see this as an indictment of 20 years of U.S. policy in Afghanistan and instead argue to continue those same policies. Better for the Afghan government to die a slow death with us pouring more money and blood into til its ignominious end. Meanwhile, the new (old) Cold Warriors want us to stay in Afghanistan because: China, China, China.
