SourceIf these retreads weren't so god awful, the Taliban wouldn't have taken over in the 90s or again last year.

And we should've done what exactly? Another surge? Even with U.S. troops in the country and billions being pumped into the Afghan government, the Taliban was steadily taking over the country. In particular, the Taliban had infiltrated various levels of government in the provinces and were making deals with local governments, because warlords like Dostum and the central government were so terrible. Amazing how some people still don't have a grasp of the situation after years of IG reports, etc. laying it all out plain as day.

For one alternative, we could have told the Taliban to go to hell, and ignored the agreement trump made with them. Another was to place the bad actors back in prison. Another would have been to remove those that had aided our troops from the country.
Like in Ukraine where we should have provided the Ukrainian patriots with the weapons they needed before thousands were killed by Putins forces, there were alternatives. Our leaders just needed to guts to use them.
The Taliban, and Putin, had the guts.

As I advocated throughout this thread. Congress and pretty much everyone else failed to speed up that process.

It only took you three days to ignore the topic, change the topic, and utter more bull shit.
And I will bet you think you are an "intelligent" one.

No one has changed any topic. You just don't have an actual answer outside of stupid crap like "tell the Taliban to go to hell." That's an empty platitude that only serves to make you feel good.

It used to be that it surprised me when fools respond, and prove what liars, and idiots, they are. No more is that the case.
The title to this thread is "US Troop Draw Down in Afghanistan by 2021", not 20 years ago.
trump cowtowed to the Taliban, and then so did Biden. Why? In doing so the Taliban was allowed to take over the Capitol of Afghanistan, the airports, and the government. Americans were killed, and still nothing has been done. Those that aided Americans in this illegal war have been killed, or forced to hide. And nothing is done.
But to the low IQ crowd suggesting such be done, or should have been done, is a "platitude" which only demonstrates the cowardice of many Americans, and their lack of integrity, honor, and intelligence.
The same is being done in Ukraine, China,, and elsewhere in the world. If we are a nation of power we need to act like it, and quit sucking at the ass of tyrrants.

Americans were killed, and still nothing has been done. The Taliban was steadily retaking the country even with U.S. troops there. If we had remained, they still would have taken over the country - just more slowly - without some massive influx of U.S. troops to fight them off; we most likely would've been leaving Kabul even more ignominiously a la the British in the First Afghan War. Part of the reason they were able to do that is because the Afghan government was riddled with corruption, which filtered down to its military (such as equipment being stolen and sold; the ghost soldiers; etc.). This was end result of 20 years of U.S. policy (not just one year: 2021). Read the SIGAR reports, read anything. It's why we had to get out; our position in the country could not be maintained. On that we agree. This is just the latest on that: U.S. is rejecting over 90% of Afghans seeking to enter the country on humanitarian grounds

So in essence, what you're saying is: Nice try but no SIGAR...
