Ohio state Republican lawmakers are once again trying to overturn the will of the people, after a devastating loss on abortion rights. Ohioans overwhelmingly chose to enshrine abortion protections in the state Constitution earlier this week. Republicans had tried multiple times to block the referendum, called Issue 1, but they were handily defeated every time. So on Friday, the state GOP unveiled a new tactic: stopping the courts from allowing the new amendment to take effect. “To prevent mischief by pro-abortion courts with Issue 1, Ohio legislators will consider removing jurisdiction from the judiciary over this ambiguous ballot initiative,” Republican state representatives said in a press release. “The Ohio legislature alone will consider what, if any, modifications to make to existing laws based on public hearings and input from legal experts on both sides.”

Democrats prove they don’t understand we live in a republic. I
If the will of the people in New York City or San Francisco or Chicago was no more free speech only state media, the courts would strike that down.
A referendum is not a law.

The GOP do not know how to govern. The pendulum has swing too far. There are degenerates in Congress. We are watching the correction.

It's odd how you think that using elected officials to make laws and shape the government is the antithesis of a Republican form of government.

Yes, if they want no children. And no form of contraception is 100% No, no one should decide what a woman wants to do with her body, except the woman with advice from her doctor if needed

The GOP mantra: Do as I say; not as I do. In a nutshell.
They are so blitzed they can’t even see the treacherous path. Thank goodness the majority of this fine country see.

What you propose is the will of the people is to be cherished if and up to it not in step with the GOP? Vote them out if you don't like it. That's how it works. What Fid is saying is that the elected officials shouldn't act on their power. That isn't true. They should use their powers for what they feel is right and if the people don't like not, they'll elect a new group.

Yeah, but you're so upset by the fact another group gets elected you want to take the power away to vote as much as possible.

The Ohio court system is ultimately controlled by conservative justices. Either way likely wouldn't matter that much but having the legislature rework those laws and rules is actually the more democratic of the processes.
