Actually, he was in illegal possession of a firearm in the State of Wisconsin NOT defending his own property. He is a minor. I"m sure as soon as he was arrested, the group he was with evaporated because none of them want's to be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor nor charged as an accessory to a murder charge. I'm also sure the owner of the business he was "defending" will now claim ignorance as to how the kid got in front of his lot with an illegal weapon.

Actually, he was in illegal possession of a firearm he had carried across state lines to defend property that wasn't his and killed two people in a place he shouldn't have been.

You aren't defending yourself when you are actively trying to engage people with weapons you aren't supposed to even have. One thing I would point out, though, judging from the videos and first-hand accounts I have seen/heard, the dominant narrative is that this young man had a bag thrown at him by a protestor, and as this protestor was running away, he opened fire into his back, at roughly 20 feet away. At this point, he became a murderer and was chased/attacked by the crowd. That's when he shoots another protestor and wounds a first responder in the arm.
There does not seem to be any evidence to suggest these killings were done in self-defense.
