The Oakland Police Department said at least four people were struck by bullets Monday night inside RingCentral Coliseum following a post-game fireworks show after the Oakland Athletics' 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

According to a Tuesday news release from the Athletics, police believe the injuries were the result of "celebratory gunfire."

"Following last night's Oakland A's post-game fireworks show, officers were notified of a possible shooting victim inside the ballpark," the release said. "During the preliminary investigation, officers located three fans struck by bullet fragments from what appears to be celebratory gunfire throughout the city of Oakland."

Monday's shooting capped off a holiday weekend of violence throughout the U.S. According to the New York Times, authorities in roughly a dozen cities reported shootings over the weekend, with most of them occurring on July 4. That includes a mass shooting at a parade in a suburb of Chicago, where a gunman killed six people and left about three dozen others injured.
