I understand there's a German beer the name of which translates to "Bread Beer".
Just saw an episode of Begin Japanology that showcased an Australian ex-pat who runs a brew pub in Kyoto (I think). Veddy interesting. Makes his own brews. Wouldn't mind trying some of them, but the travel costs are too dear.

I'm hearing that this beer by Industrial Arts Brewing
called Torque Wrench is the best brew I've ever drank.
I've heard that their Impact Wrench is even better.
EDIT: It's not better, but it is stronger.

An old German saying often attributed to Ben
Franklin: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water
there is bacteria.
In a
number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if
we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have
absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) - bacteria found
in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of
poop.
However,
we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum,
whiskey or other liquors) because alcohol has to go through a purification
process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.
Remember:
Water = Poop, Beer = Health
Therefore, it's better to drink beer and talk stupid, than to drink water
and be full of shit.
There is
no need to thank me for this valuable information: I'm doing it as a public
service.

Sadly for some reason my alkyhaul consumption has plummeted dramatically this year. Partly to limit carbs, and partly because I just don't seem to enjoy it as much as I used to. And I'm a cheap drunk as well.
I do prefer wine with food. But I've been buying those little Sutter Home mini bottles and that surely is foul stuff. Got a full wine rack of real wine.. but... The nice thing about red wines is that keeping them a while generally improves them.
Whisky? Rarely touch it. I still have Chivas Regal that was gifted to me at a job I had about 10 years ago. It's not bad if you like that kind of thing.

I used to have 2 or 3 drinks with friends almost every day, but never drank alone. I started drinking and getting drunk in my 30s with fellow employees. I soon learned that I could nurse a glass of straight whiskey for hours because I didn't like the taste. I did developed a taste and love of good whiskey, but not before I learned that a drop tastes the same as a gulp. These days, I have a shot about once a week if I remember. |
