You knew this was coming...
President Donald Trump is for the first time floating a “delay” to November’s presidential election, as he makes unsubstantiated allegations that increased mail-in voting will result in fraud.
The dates of federal elections are set by Congress, and the Constitution makes no provisions for a delay to the Jan. 20, 2021 presidential inauguration.
Trump tweeted Thursday: “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”
There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud through mail-in voting, even in states with all-mail votes.

GDP shrinks by 33% and he wants to delay the election....

Yes Greg. Mail in voting will not be accurate. When a dead cat can vote there is a lot wrong. The best way is show up, have a voter ID, (like I do) and vote. Disabled people have legal help to know who they are and can absentee vote. We know they are not dead voting. We know that they are legal citizens. Why do you want to give your country away?

Trump votes by mail. Pence votes by mail. Most military members vote by mail. Everybody in Washington state and Oregon votes by mail.
Problem?

Trump votes by mail. Pence votes by mail. Most military members vote by mail. Everybody in Washington state and Oregon votes by mail. Problem? Greg Absentee ballots are not teh same as mass voting by mail. The absentte are far fewer and are checked closely since there aren't as many. But you already know that. The issue is how will all those mail in balot be verified and will they all be counted by the end of election day. I've heard liberal as well as conservative pundits say that we may not know the results for days, maybe longer. It has nothing to do with Trump per se. What actual difference does it make if we know the results on election day? That has never been a necessity. The electoral college doesn't vote until the Monday after the second Wednesday in December. That's the first deadline that matters.

According to Trump, voting in person was also a big problem.
It almost sounds like voting itself is the problem. I tend to smile at all this talk about voter fraud. In my view, this is all about turnout. If people have to go into public to vote and there is a pandemic raging, turnout is likely to be muted. But if they can vote by mail then turn out will be fine.
And the GOP tends to do better when fewer people vote. A high turn out election makes it more difficult for Republicans to get elected.
That is the *real* reason our right-wing friends are talking about mail-in voting.

Trump's been hyping that situation and making more out of it than is really there. The claim that 20% of the ballots were fraudulent is false. Electronic voting is even riskier, and according to Trump, in-person voting is also given to be fraudulent.
So I don't see any easy solutions other than to try to make the mail-in process as secure as possible.

Sadly it doesn't matter if you vote by mail or in person the crooked corrupt Democrats will find a way to rig and steal elections.

So I don't see any easy solutions other than to try to make the mail-in process as secure as possible. And until that happens we don't need try it out on a presidential election when aready we have examples of it going astray in state primaries. Vote as we usually do with precautions. We do it going to the grocery stores as one example. Not all that hard to do. Sorry but when Democrats as a whole strongy back something with a potential for fraud, red flags should go up. As you said neither sytem may be perfect but this is not the time for trial runs on something that was slapped together in a few hasty months. Absentee voting is more verifiable due to the smaller amount of votes and we also heard stories of military ballots being refused to be counted. Saying that we already have it is not true. Not that you peronally said that.
That makes no sense. When you vote absentee, you're filling out a paper ballot and mailing it to the board of elections. It's no different than getting a paper ballot at a polling station, filling it out and submitting it. I voted by mail for 18 years during my military service. Never a problem. I also currently vote locally. Again, never a problem.

Mail-in voting is no more problematic than any other kind of voting. We need to ensure turn out and safety and that means adapting. The Democrats are *not* backing something that has a unique potential for fraud. Folks on the right are using scare tactics to reduce turnout. That's what this is really about.

You answered your own post. You were in the military. That is one purpose of the absentee ballot. Not try verifying an entire nations' ballots and say that there is no potential for mistakes. What about the idea of ballot harvesting as well. Sorry greg there is a big difference but no matter what anyone here says you will likely disagree so maybe you should look into it on your own. The system we currently have flawed as some claim it to be is still the best method until a there's a fool proof method to do it otherwise. It's just an opinion greg. It doesn't mean that you have to agree with me or it.
What is the difference between a "military" mail in ballot and a "civilian" mail in ballot?

No the scare tactic is that if we vote in person, we're going to get more cases of the virus. We're getting them anyway and I said take precautions. I'd suggest that's it a right most would take the chance on. And those on the left are choosing a method that has been rife with issues even on the samll scale it has been used. You just said that both have the potential for problems so why change it midstrea?. I think you know but you can't bring yourself to admit it. There is more room for shenneigans with paper ballots. Did we not learn that from the Bush- Gore fiasco and Let's not forget that the Democrats have been screaming for decades that there is no fraud when we vote so why not pick up on that and stick with what works. They should be backing it but instead they are the ones using the virus as a scare tactic. Three times now...take precautions. How hard is it to space people? Have someone wipe down the machines. Let a cerain amount in at a time. How about early voting in person too. So many ways to keep the system as is. Like I said, for me personally when Democrats want to mess with the voting system, red flags go up.
That is a false statement. The Dems have never said there is NO fraud. That is a LIE.

At least with mail-in votes we get a paper ballot that can be analyzed and verified later.

Greg
The amount and the inability to verify on a much larger scale for one. There is no civilian mail in ballot. It's called an absentee ballot and it has a specific purpose and it HAS TO BE requested, not mass mailed. It is verified when returned. But you were in the military so you tell us the difference.
Sure, I'll tell you the difference.
None..
