Could be worse ... .
Donald Trump said on Friday he plans to change libel laws in the United States so that he can have an easier time suing news organizations.
During a rally in Fort Worth, Texas, Trump began his usual tirade against newspapers such as The New York Times and The Washington Post, saying they're "losing money" and are "dishonest." The Republican presidential candidate then took a different turn, suggesting that when he's president they'll "have problems."
"One of the things I'm going to do if I win, and I hope we do and we're certainly leading. I'm going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money. We're going to open up those libel laws. So when The New York Times writes a hit piece which is a total disgrace or when The Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money instead of having no chance of winning because they're totally protected," Trump said.

Saying racist things is a revolting habit. But a state that criminalizes the mere publishing of racist thoughts is a state with a serious flaw.
Uh-huh.
So now a 12 year old yelling racial slurs at a sporting event is a publisher?

I don't think that's what he was saying.. BUT I believe there is a limit to what can be said publicly.

it would seem that most of these clamp downs on freedoms are coming from the left..
or do other people here believe it is the moderates or tea party small gov't types who are tearing down statues, looting, rioting, practicing censorship, arresting 12 year olds for saying things they don't like etc..

I believe this was all said in England which has different standards for libel and free speech than the USA.
Although here it could be considered disturbing the peace, or incitement of rioting.

WORSE? LOL the media should be held to a higher standard when reporting REAL news not their slanted Fake News. You're probably too young to have seen the best news reporter ever Walter conkrite AND there's a reason he was the best he was a Liberal at heart BUT when he reported the News that's exactly what he did he reported the news no Left spin no right spin just the News. Today all we get is mostly Fake News with the left And CNN MSNBC Or any of the Alphabet channels and of course you have the Fake News online crap like the NY slime the Washington compost and the Huffington compost. AND of course you have Fox News on the Right slanting their news to the right. YEP would love to see Journalist held to a higher standard like the Good ole days.

Cronkite broadcasted in a time BEFORE Ronald McReagan paved the way for Fake News.. Much of this approach was shaped by the Fairness Doctrine. A policy of the Federal Communications Commission beginning in 1949, the doctrine was based on the notion that the television networks were “public trustees.” Licensed by the federal government, they ought to serve the entire nation, the argument went, by airing competing perspectives on controversial issues. While the policy had been intended to foster a full and fair debate, in practice it led networks to avoid employing anchors or reporters with obvious biases and to play most issues down the middle.
Trump wants to make the media ‘fair.’ He’s not the first GOP president to try it.
Conservatives never liked the rule. As explained by historian Nicole Hemmer, who is also a co-editor of The Washington Post’s historical analysis section, Made by History, an entire generation of conservatives believed that “objectivity” privileged the liberal establishment because the default views of most broadcasters aligned with those of the Democratic Party. . . In the landmark Red Lion Broadcasting Co. Inc. v. FCC in 1969, the court ruled that the Fairness Doctrine was constitutional. Free speech, the justices held, was “the right of the viewers and listeners, not the right of the broadcasters.” Therefore, the networks had to provide “ample play for the free and fair competition of opposing views.”
In the 1980s, all of this changed. President Ronald Reagan believed the marketplace, not the government, was the best arbiter for competing viewpoints (and for much else). Notably, Reagan’s appointee for FCC commissioner, Mark Fowler, had long opposed the rule. “We’ve got to look beyond the conventional wisdom that we must somehow regulate this box,” Fowler wrote after the Red Lion ruling. There was nothing special about television’s content and no need for the government to be concerned.
In 1987, the FCC announced that it would no longer enforce the Fairness Doctrine. The commission deemed that the expansion of cable television technology made old arguments about the “scarcity” of airtime irrelevant and that the doctrine inhibited broadcasters from tackling controversial issues. Reagan’s FCC promptly killed it. The Democratic Congress tried to restore the doctrine, but Reagan vetoed the bill. LinkAs you can see from your longing for Cronkite'est news reporting .. Conservative are ALWAYS on the wrong side of history.

What do you mean "on the wrong side of history". History is the story of the factual past. It's the facts, not the forming of the past.

I didn't see what he said. Does anyone know what he said that was so bad that a 12 year old would be imprisoned and publicly admonished? Not sedn his alleged tweets/emails but hearing it includes death threats. Looks like failed parenting rather than a pice matter to me.

OK, let's back up.
The article linked in the OP does not make any racist comments.
But for some strange reasons you seem to think it does, and are defending its right so to do.
Why?

"on the wrong side of history" .. When you support and defend policies or behaviors that ultimately are abandoned because of their vile/unconstructive nature.
Conservatives are particularly good that finding themselves on the wrong side of history .. e.g.
Conservatives on the wrong side of history sided with King George III during the American Revolution.
Conservatives on the wrong side of history started a war to protect the institution of slavery.
Conservatives on the wrong side of history opposed Women's Suffrage ... .
Conservatives on the wrong side of history opposed the Civil Rights Acts ..
Goes on and on .. ..

I suspect fids, if the gov't crossed the line and really started violating constitutional rights, you'd be slapping on your brown shirt and would be tattling on your neighbor who read the wrong Mark Twain books...and if today's tea party members would have been the jeffersons and washingtons of that era...well, I'm guessing just say you'd be the one attacking them in favor of the king... out of curiosity do you fancy yourself as someone who would have been on the side of the patriot revolutionaries... I may be way off, but todays left strikes me as the ones who would be right there with a big draconian gov't. But maybe you think of yourself as the revolutionaries because yours are out burning and looting and rioting...
