I don’t know what your point is. Almost all our tomatoes in the northeast where I am come from Mexico and all greenhouse grown. And taste like crap and score very low on brix. We are discussing why Mexican tomatoes often taste bad and have little nutrition. It’s because they are most often all tomatoes bred to travel long distances, prime during transport and have a long shelf life. They are not bred for taste and nutrition. Or to be picked ripe. Did you not read my earlier post where I said ..
"Typically varietals that ship well but as my great-grandmother put it.. have had the taste bred out of them .. "
That is actually true. The Israeli breeder that bred the long shelf life tomato in the video even eats one and is asked how it tastes and he basically says not good. Enza zaden breeds some very good hybrids. You can buy them thru Johnnys selected seeds or gurneys. But the varieties youd grown in your home garden or a seasonal farmer would never work for long transport and shelf life. This year even in Rhode Island I was harvesting some late season beefsteak tomatoes up to the first week in November. I thought the season was over and had so many green tomatoes we made lots of green relish salsa and we’re eating fried green tomatoes almost daily. Good stuff.
