Over five hundred million followers. You're going to dismiss that with an OMG in a razor thin election? You go girl.

Over five hundred million followers. You're going to dismiss that with an OMG in a razor thin election? You go girl. How many of those in this country? Of those, how many are registered to vote? How many of those in an age group that has high voter turnout?
Those are the questions you should be asking instead "over 500 million followers," because that is a meaningless number.

So, a woman who can't sing endorses a woman who can't think?

So, a woman who can't sing endorses a woman who can't think? You should tell all your followers just that.

Does that story answer any of the questions I just asked?
Nope.
And then there's this:
"Ahead of the 2018 US midterms, Swift took to social media to throw her weight behind Democrat Phil Bredesen in his bid for Senate... Although Bredesen didn’t win, her endorsement marked a pivotal moment in her career and demonstrated her influence – with Vote.org saying it had received nearly 65,000 registrations from voters aged 18-29 in the 24 hours after Swift’s post."
Bredesen lost by 242,033 votes. Then in 2020 her appeal only saw an "uptick in registrations (up by 32,252)." So, diminishing returns two years later in a much bigger race.
How many of the 65,000 and 32,252 actually voted? How many of the 65,000 in 2018 were in Tennessee?
Doesn't seem as consequential as you think.

Why don't you commission and conduct some detailed research. You seem to be asking all the important questions that no one else has thought of. You should have results sometime in February. In the meantime, in a razor thin election it matters.

158,594,895 million people voted in 2020. ( Source) The difference between Biden and Trump was 7,060,528. Her 2020 appeal led to 32,252 additional registrations - less than 1 percent of the difference. And we don't even know if they voted. Now, if there's some huge uptick in the 18-29 voter turnout (a group that historical votes at lower levels than other age groups) that can be attributed to her endorsement, come back and rub it in my face. But based on what we've already seen in 2018 and 2020, it's not going to have a significant impact.

Better re read that article. I already quoted from it and have cited the numbers they provided. What do you want me to reread that you think is relevant to what I just said? Her number of followers?

Which was less than the 65,000 within 24 hours in 2018. So, like I said earlier, diminishing return. And nothing in 2022 apparently.
And nobody is attributing more than that to her, which it seems like they probably would if they could.
So, her appeal led to less registration activity from 2018 to 2020, and in 2020, those people were a small fraction of the margin and no evidence that most of them voted. Based on 2020 turnout for 18-29, maybe half of them did.
EDIT: The Independent story says the 35,252 was in 2020, but other reports show that occurred in 2023.
