Well, I didn't even try to put the figure eight antenna in the attic. It does just fine attached to a chimney. Probably better reception there as well. It wouldn't have fit anyway. Reception is fine in the attic. No storms and high winds in the attic. Much safer environment. Reception may be fine in the attic but the same antenna would perform much better outside. Walls bounce the signal so you get all kinds of echo from an indoor antenna. Best is outside, away from any large walls, houses, fences, etc. I'm using a sub $100 RCA Yagi type mounted outside and pull in 40+ channels. The exact same antenna inside the house pulls in 9 channels. Just say no! to interference. |

A much older, and taller metal mast from a previous install is within 30' Best I can do on the cheap... |

Lightning strikes are extremely rare in this area.
However as I recall, I attached a ground stake and a lightning rod to the tallest chimney here anyway, just to be on the safe side.

Update on the roof: We had a late summer/early fall rain the other day. The new roof did just fine. Yay!
However the real test will be in a few months when we get our late fall/early winter rains. I understand it's been raining cats and dogs on the east coast, and ever up north on the west coast.
We'll see. But I think I got a new roof just in time.
