No, I am not very familiar with Brenning Manning, but the quote you provided here was not a comment on North America and his claim was not about why HE was an atheist. I am evaluating his comment you presented here, and as I articulated, it is woefully lacking. I don't at all believe that people reject Christianity "because they got smarter" (or whatever).
Then you are rejecting the evidence in front of you..
Country, State or County the more educated the populace the less religious they are.. (the more educated the less Conservative also)
You'll find that people who have the Bible read to them tend to be Christians..
People that have read the Bible for themselves tend to be atheist ..

The point is that you and bama don’t do the same for others. Are you pretending Jasmine is the only person who behaves poorly here or that she is the only one who behaves poorly while promoting her being a Christian? My point is, I think fairy tales are fairy tales. If you want to believe them, it's all good with me. You can toss the crap from the OT, its only purpose was to scare people. The evidence in front of me is that I have a Master’s degree, I’ve read through the Bible cover to cover at least 12 times, and I’m still conservative (though maybe a tad less so than I used to be). So to a large extent, the evidence in front of me is in a mirror. |

Have you read anything by Brennan Manning? Pretty sure he's not making a statement from a scientific, sociological, or historical perspective. And his context was North America.
