it really hasn't moved much in 2 days. We're still in about the same location to the north. I understand that the beach is flooded, here, just stiff wind and a lot of rain. I'm going to go sit on the porch and admire nature before going to bed hoping Sally stays well west of me.
Only one letter left before going Greek

I'm a block north of the Sound. the waves breaking along the barrier island over a mile away sound like old times at the beach house during a storm. It's still just sitting there and little by little wobbling towards me.

My business took me from Hernando Beach FL up and all along the Gulf Coast to LA for years. I still hate that bridge at Pensacola and I haven't had to drive it for 25 years. Know the feeling, RWB?

What is rwb? A barge hit one span about 25 years ago and closed 2 lanes for over a year. About 30 years ago they added a couple of feet in width and closed two lanes for 2 years. Currently they are tearing down that bridge and we are only using one spanvof the new bridge. I more recently worked along the coast from Pensacola to Cedar Key.

On shore 24+ inches of rain supposedly recorded in Navarre
Same date, time and landfall as monster storm Ivan.

That's a pretty personal question.

The way you get "turned around" on the island, it can seem like the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. You have to go there as a person living on the gulf to get it.

Did they show The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Cedar Key?

Just teasing. We all knew what you meant. We just bored and need something to play with.

last time I was on Cedar Key there were 2 restaurants, a marina and a few single family homes. That was it. Cedar Key trivia: John Wesley Hardin fleeing the texas rangers landed at Cedar Key in 1874, from there to Gainesville where he opened a saloon. After selling out he drove a herd of cattle to Jacksonville only to find his buyer dead and no market for the cattle, so he opened a butcher shop and another saloon, but the Pinkertons came looking and he left. His next venture was a logging camp northwest of Pensacola on the Styx River. Saturday nights were for gambling in Pensacola. One Sunday a.m. while waiting on the train to return to camp, the Texas rangers arrested him and took him back to Texas. And all in 3 years.

Bridges
goddammit fucking idiot crane operator leaving a crane up during a hurricane, the son-of-a-bitch took out our brand new bridge.
Last time it was because a tug operator was in a hurry to end his shift and last time it was a year being fixed. Of course no penalties for the tug company or the tug operator.
Meanwhile 3.5 miles turned into a 40 mile stop and go nightmare for Pensacola Beach and Gulf Breeze people. Typical trip to town became 2 to 3 hours.
And again my elected dumbasses are already talking about a proposal to FEMA to cover the contractor's mess with taxpayer funds.
And I've been operating under the silly notion that the reason I paid money for insurance and was bonded for certain jobs was to cover the property owner for any mistakes I might make.

I noticed a bit of incoherence but decided to let it pass.

Did some residents get some cheap steaks out of it?

Well, ABC was showing some of the damage on the evening news just now; looks cataclysmic. Our disasters out here tend to be of the hot, dry, and shaky variety. Until a dam bursts in a big quake, that is.
Stay safe!

Until a dam bursts in a big quake, that is. Stay safe! quakes are a little harder to sit back and enjoy and a lot scarier. I've got some good hurricane stories. Mostly they are not much of a problem until they are over, then there's the clean up and this time a busted bridge. based on the last time it could be a year before we get our 3.5 mile access to Pensacola back.
