I recently stumbled onto this video on YouTube, and it might be the most amazing thing I’ve seen in a long time. You can skip to the 2:20 mark for the part I mean: Have you ever heard of such a thing? She actually caught a fish by using her arm as bait. Yikes! Not only is that scary, but it seems pretty gross as well. I started watching some of her other videos, and she is apparently a real pro at this type of fishing. When I was little, my Dad took us fishing at this place called Sand Island. I caught a few small fish with a bamboo pole. Later on, we’d go fishing off of Hickam piers and at some beaches on the North Shore. Those times, we used a regular rod and reel. My Dad would put on the bait for me because I was grossed out. He also had to unhook whatever fish I caught. My older brothers still go fishing with my Dad, and my brothers even do spear fishing. Scott goes with them on occasion. There’s also big-game fishing and net fishing. But I have never, ever heard of fishing using your arm as bait.

This is a mamo (Hawaiian name). It’s the first fish I ever caught.
