I run into fans of yours all the time. P.S. Never liked Star Wars after they ripped off Dune.Dune was only one influence on Star Wars, and not a particularly major influence at that. Agreed, but they stole the sandworms.

Pretty sure the worst Star Trek is worse than the worst Star Wars, and that the best Star Trek isn't quite as a good as the best Star Wars. Other than that, they're so different they're pretty hard to compare. My favorite sci-fi is Star Trek’s original TV series. Then I like the rebooted Star Trek movies (the ones with a new cast). And then I like “The Orville,” which is in the spirit of Star Trek. Really? I always preferred TNG, at least, after the first two seasons.

Bare in mind that it was the success of Star Wars in 1977 that pushed Paramount Pictures to reboot the Star Trek movie franchise in 1979. And the rest... is history... Greg ... Really, the two franchises are quite different: one is science fiction and the other is really a fantasy in a space opera setting... I said that.

Since this thread has morphed into a kinda-sorta Star Trek/Star Wars discussion, I will say that I enjoy both. Overall, Trek has FAR better writing, but I will also state that I LOVED 'Rogue One'. Got to see Vader wrecking shit and why he was so feared.
For the newer stuff, I have bowed out of much of TV. Not gonna pay a bunch of different platforms for one show I (might) watch.

The Sequels absolutely suck, a woke disaster that defecates on the cast of the original and even on the entire original concept of the movies. The Mandalorian was a pleasant surprise until the intolerant leftist bastards decided to cancel Gina Carano as Cara Dune. First couple of Obiwan episode have been OK. What about the prequels? The story arcs and political machinations are pretty good, but one has to get past Lucas' goofy dialogue and directing to see it. Now that the history has been fleshed out through Clone Wars and Rebels, most of the serious story lines in the Prequels hold up pretty well.

If you have HULU, I highly recommend giving “The Orville” a try. Since moving to the streaming service, the budget has been greatly increased. The special effects and cinematography are next level, and the episodes are longer. Fans are comparing this season (Season 3) to Star Trek the Next Generation.

It's almost more Star Trek (TNG, anyway) than some of the other Star Trek shows. Looks like it. Sounds like it. I think it started as a parody, but it's rarely more than a tiny bit funny.

Oh, I think some parts of the first two seasons were super funny. Take this bit: But the weird thing, this current season (Season 3) is almost devoid of humor. Everything has a more serious tone now. I miss the quirky charm. But it’s still good storytelling with very provoking themes.

Update: But you might want to skip Episode 7. It was completely devoid of action. Not a single shot fired or punch thrown. It was like a 70-minute soap opera.

I've only watched the first episode of season 3 so far, and it was next to nothing. I guess it's all about expectations.

Exactly. Do you think Braveheart is an accurate historical depiction? Or Titanic?

I wouldn't call either Braveheart or Titannic "fantasy escapism".
Would you?
Because that is the term I used to describe Star Wars and Star Trek.
