I absolutely loved the original three Star Wars films from the 1970's and 80's. Those were well done (for the time) sci-fi movies. Couldn't get enough of them. When the next series came along, I was older and had a lot more sci-fi under my belt. I saw them, but not more than once. Now there seems to be no end to the franchise. They've taken something really special and beat it to death. I have ZERO interest in any of the newer stuff.

I just finished Obi Wan. Started off not liking it but it grew on me.
Worth watching.

Greg I'm a huge Star Wars fan...but I would argue that the downturn happened at Return of the Jedi. I couldn't get into any of the animated series, but you're right, the newer it is, the progressively inferior it is (with the possible exception of Rogue One). The Mandalorian was a nice surprise, but I think part of the reason it was decent was because the expectations had been set low and it was a nice surprise.

Greg The Sequels absolutely suck, a woke disaster that defecates on the cast of the original and even on the entire original concept of the movies. The Mandalorian was a pleasant surprise until the intolerant leftist bastards decided to cancel Gina Carano as Cara Dune. First couple of Obiwan episode have been OK.

They're kinda pointless since you already know what's going to happen. In order to make the prequel interesting, the writers are forced to contradict established history which in turns sparks criticism from the fans... Prequels are mediocre at best and rarely if ever appreciated by the fans.

I watched the first Star Wars and Return of the Jedi on dvd, and part of the Empire Strikes Back. I enjoyed the first one the most. The music was great.
I never watched any of the sequels.
Star Trek is better, y’know.

Star Trek is better, y’know. Pretty sure the worst Star Trek is worse than the worst Star Wars, and that the best Star Trek isn't quite as a good as the best Star Wars. Other than that, they're so different they're pretty hard to compare.

Fi. while Star Wars is more along the lines of fairy tales. Personally, I can't stand it.

Greg Yeah, well, that was the opportunity to grab more money (that's not a criticism— Star Trek: The Motion Picture wasn't that great, but without it we never would have gotten Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan).. Really, the two franchises are quite different: one is science fiction and the other is really a fantasy in a space opera setting. The first two Star Wars movies attempted to tell a psychological story and restore adventure to movies (after Hollywood had settled into the grittiness of movies like The French Connection and Rocky). After the first two, the pop Joseph Campbell/Carl Jung, et. al., were discarded for the sake of hack writing. It's...fun, I guess, but that's about it.

And then I like “The Orville,” which is in the spirit of Star Trek.
