You have a point—there is a danger in forcing a principle at the extremes: "enforcing" a birth even if/when it will cost the life of the mother or the mother and the child. I believe it is also extreme to force someone traumatized through rape to undergo further trauma. I believe it's wrong to take the life, but the wrong occurred during the rape; that's where it began. |

Protecting the life of the mother is almost universally accepted as a clear reason for abortion, by those on the right, those who are Pro-Life and reflected in the laws being passed or pushed. Rape is an edge case, because you can't argue the merits of your position, so you argue about rape instead. Because you would not agree to limit abortions in all other cases beyond rape or to save the life of the mother either way. It is just a red herring. |
