Just a few assorted news and thoughts from my corner of the world: 1. The coronavirus virus has hit back hard in Hawaii. From just 1 or 2 cases a day (sometimes zero), lately we’ve had triple-digit new cases every day, with a recent high of 355 in one day. The governor is talking about shutting down the state completely again, which is just depressing. The thought of no church gatherings, restaurants or movies or concerts or sporting events for the remainder of the year (my guesstimate) is seriously depressing. We are not meant to stay cooped up in our homes all day, all the time. 2. The good news about the virus (or so I thought) was that a bunch of prison inmates tested positive. Great, right? But the state is talking about releasing these criminals to better protect the rest of the prisoners. Talk about insanity. 3. My iPad seemed to die a few days ago, so I went and bought a new iPad Pro. Then, believe it or not, my old iPad started working again. So I am in the process of transferring all my files onto the new one before the old one dies again. The enlarged screen and sound are super cool. 4. I was gifted a $500 iTunes card, and I already put it to good use. If you have iTunes, you can get some really good deals right now. I just got the complete series of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” for just $30 (normal price is $70). 5. The University of Hawaii football and volleyball seasons have been “postponed,” which is even more depressing. I especially feel bad for the athletes who worked so hard for the coming season. But the decision was out of their hands. What have you guys been up to?

Our idiot Gov was talking about enforcing a travel restriction but I think she got a whole bunch of push back because we haven't heard much more. 2) Been spending the last couple weeks working in the garden trying to put up as much as I can before the first of Sept. Got two hogs going to the processor, one for us, one we raised and sold for a customer.. Sold off most my laying hens saved back enough to keep us in eggs for now.. All the goats are doing great, I quit milking last month to give the does some time before breeding starts up again. 3) Big changes might be coming our way, were looking to possibly move the farm to Oklahoma by the first of Nov.. Its scary and exciting all at the same time.. between the house, Jeffs shop and the farm its at times overwhelming. Thank goodness for trailers, trucks and Animal transporters lol

Well, I confess I was wondering what happened to you. Limey and I were just talking about whales and look what surfaced!
Anyway, unlike you, I wouldn't wish Covid-19 on anybody, not even you or Trump. It's too nasty. And some people seem to get long term debilitating symptoms. I gather it's in part because of the way it gains entry to tissues - via a relatively widespread receptor on most cells - the ACE inhibitor. (Acetylcholinesterace Inhibitor). This is an important part of the circulatory system that regulates blood pressure. So I guess it's no surprising that in some people it can kill or cause long term disability.
When I learned how nasty covid-19 was last winter, I sat in my garden one afternoon and realized I didn't want to die just yet. There's just too much good in this world to miss.
Perhaps you could think along those lines.
Deal?

A-Mom: I’m so excited for you! What are the advantages of moving to Oklahoma? If it’s going to be a great opportunity, the “Sooner” you move, the better! And silly question: What happens if you get attached to one of your hogs? Isn’t it sad giving them up for slaughter? Odysseus: Thank you, but it’s not like I’m depressed enough to kill myself or anything like that. It’s just very discouraging to have to give up so many things I’m used to having and doing. It’s hard on everybody. I asked a friend how she is staying positive, and she just said, “Alcohol.”

Well, yes. But since I got injured at work a year ago, I've been kind of sheltering in place for some time. Now I wish I could go traveling etc. but the pandemic has put a damper on that. I don't drink much either, nor do drugs, so verbal fencing with conservatives is my main pleasure, LOL. Well, that and turning the compost pile. Like most all of us I'll be glad if and when this pandemic stuff is over and done with.
PS-Prisoners are people too.

Well Jasmine, I was wondering where you'd gone too. Glad you're back in stack. Of late, I've been working on my Harley. I still work but from home and I'm on a four day work week. Lots of free time. I built an elevated bed for my daughter and got a lot of things done I'd had on my "honeydo" list. My wife spilled a glass of water onto her laptop. Had to go out to the garage and salvage a eight year old laptop with her hard drive and memory. Got her back up in less than a day. Pays to be a packrat.

But the decision was out of their hands. What have you guys been up to? From my part of the world, it's just too darn hot. Particularly for a person like me who absolutely hates hot weather. I guess it comes from almost dying of the heat when I was a month old. No a/c/ of course and I wouldn't/couldn't eat or drink anything. But I made it through that. We're off of our 15 day state-wide quarantine which wasn't much different than mr crepe and my daily world anyway. None of the kids, all out of state, can come see us but that will come to an end at some point. When we have to go to a doc appt we notice that traffic is as heavy as it's always been. No one is staying home. All stores are open, or at least the ones we go to. No changes there. We go to church online, and we like that. Right now, our church is doing both the in-person attendance and the online. That seems to be working. Life seems to be moving right along, and for that we are thankful.

And silly question: What happens if you get attached to one of your hogs? Isn’t it sad giving them up for slaughter? Advantages.. 1) For the first time since leaving home at the age of 18 I'll get to live around my Mom 2) Cost of living is way better than Oregon, housing and land is also very reasonable, we can purchase 20x what we have here and have something we dont have right now... The deed.. . And yes.. the "Sooner" we leave the better We always get attached to our feeder hogs, its hard not to. They are so friendly and we give them the best possible life, they have free access to all the organic food they want plus fresh milk and fruits and vegetables off our farm. They are given plenty of room to root and just be a pig, lay in the mud or seek shelter in their hog house. They are socialized early and love to get their tummies rubbed and ear scratches are the best. But they have a purpose. They feed our family and others. They were born and raised to go to freezer camp but for the 7 months they are alive they know not one day of hunger, fear or discomfort and the day their life ends, that moment is quick and as painless as we can make it. Of course its sad, to say its not would be cold and cruel. But as I said, they have a purpose and its up to us to make that purpose the best they would have known and be thankful for the life they give to feed us and others.

Delicious!! mr crepe went to get me one today and came home with a jalepena cheeseburger but they no longer have the bacon sandwich. So sad. These are the important things in life. Screw the worry regarding who's going to be elected President. Return the bacon sandwich!!!

One I strive to perfect, after not being happy so much with my last batch I decided this year to let the professionals do it for me.. I'll attempt it again once we get settled and I move to a more sustainable breed of pig.. We raised an Idaho Pasture pig last year, bred her (she had 9 piglets her first time!) but we really didnt have the room for a year round pig that did better on pasture so we sold her and the piglets.. I am for sure going down that road again and hope to be able to set aside a couple acres we can rotate them on. THEN I can perfect my bacon making skills!

So the fact I have a jar of bacon grease in my cupboard isn't as weird as some people think then right? I seriously thought my youngest sister was going to have a heart attack when I pulled the jar out to make biscuits
