Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Tyler Republican who was often spotted in the U.S. Capitol without a mask before contracting COVID-19 last month, has postponed a campaign fundraiser scheduled for next week but says he’s recovering “remarkably well” from the virus.
“Louie’s Birthday Bash BBQ” was scheduled for Aug. 20 in Tyler, but the event was delayed to an undetermined time in October, according to an updated invitation to the event and first reported by Business Insider. Fox News host Jeanine Pirro was scheduled to attend the original fundraiser, which offered a “VIP meet and greet” with Gohmert and a signed copy of Pirro’s book for donors who purchase $5,600 tickets. Pirro is not listed on the updated invitation.
Gohmert tested positive for COVID-19 on July 29 during White House pre-screening before a planned trip to Midland on Air Force One with President Donald Trump for a fundraiser, spiking anxieties on Capitol Hill and leaving the Texan on the receiving end of a wave of criticism.
Gohmert’s staff did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
