1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked. 2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them. 3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there. 4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy. 5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal. 6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved. 7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained. 8.Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself. 9. Do not harm little children. 10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him. Source
I think many people in our culture today are inadvertent or closet Satanists.

Like all religions, it's a mix of obvious, stupid and insane.

Back in high school there was a group who apparently were into Satanism (this was in the late 1960's, before it became a fad). You know, the makeup, the red cloaks, etc. They had formed a science fiction club, which I found interesting. However one day one of the sweet young things in the group approached me and said that some guy in the group had done something unspeakable to some sort of icon that represented me. She was almost in tears. I backed off those people real quick. I had enough challenges without inviting the Devil into the fray. LOL.

The reading I have done on Satanists convinces me that most of them don't believe in Satan any more than they believe in God. They're in it for the social activities involved, and a lot of what they espouse, as listed in the opening post, is stuff you kinda gotta agree with.
People in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster would probably feel at home in the Church of Satan but for the creepiness of the name. Now Anton Lavay (not sure about the spelling) and his church of Satan might have been the real deal. But most worshipers of "Satan" don't worship anything beyond their family and stuff. Not that they're bad people, mind you. Some of them may be among the best of the sorry lot known as humanity. They just consider belief in higher powers, demons, angels, that kind of stuff to be silly. But they DO mostly believe in being "good."

Names can be deceiving. Lucifer for example means the light bringer... It's a strange name to give the so-called prince of darkness... then again, if one was to eliminate everything that's stupid or self-contradictory in religions, especially the popular ones... there'd be nothing left.
You see? There is a reason why everyone thinks that you're idiots, guys.

I grew up in San Francisco in the 60's. I remember Mr. LaVey being an occasional guest on local TV. There was a lot of strange stuff going on in The City in those days. He was not the strangest, as I recall. But he would have been plenty strange for Middle America, which I suppose was the point.

Back in the 60's we didn't have local TV, the French people I mean, we only had one national channel and we (my family and I) didn't have TV at all. I only knew what they looked like from pictures and store windows. They didn't switch them on back then so I didn't see a working TV until my parents got one, in the 70's. Boy, did I not miss much! Things seem a lot greater when you don't have them. I lived near woods, six of them with no fences, each several kilometers across, they were public domain, on the country side! That's worth a thousand channels and then some!

Well, we didn't have a TV between about 1963 and 1966. Finally someone got tired of my whining and got me a tiny set, an 11" B&W GE, on condition it would not leave my room. LOL. I was fine with that! Strange days.
The reception for French TV really sucked.

Hail Satan? on HULU (I think you can watch on regular YouTube) is an interesting take on who Satanic worshippers actually are. I remember the story around which this documentary was made.

There is little difference in many religions and the practice of magic. The religious appropriated “sorcery” in order to further corral the masses into the control of the religious. They, then, vilified those left behind. Sunday is about as Pagan as it gets. There are many instances of appropriation bringing in just enough of the group’s customs to gaslight them into believing in the ruler’s chosen religion. This business model is as old as religious psyops and has been applied to politics as well.

As a matter of fact (for real this time), witches are often represented as old women because these assholes went after old poor marginalized women with nascent senility that they claimed were possessed by the demon because of their confused speech. They tortured them and then burned them at the stake (one of the most horrible ways to die). The christians have so much blood on their hands that it's the apex of indecency that they keep giving lessons of morals to the rest of the world (plus with their current, still active, protection of known pedophiles).

Christianity was built on the mystical and previous religions. All modified to strike fear and thus control the masses. youtu.be/YMiWap5ItAcwww.livescience.com/42187-miracle-birth-stories-beyond-jesus.html

Your prophets and your messiah practiced magic, so it's a bit hypocritical. As for paganism, you dislike it so much that you stole its celebrations and made them your own. They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery...

Yeah, that's cool and all. Because the immediate context of Judaism (technically, "proto-Judaism") has less influence on Christianity than contexts from much further afield in time and space? Uh...no. Anyway, back to the questions: Define sorcery. Define paganism.

Uh...no. Anyway, back to the questions: Define sorcery. Define paganism. Sorcery: Fictitious activity invented by the Christians to torture and execute scapegoats as focus for the frustrated masses' ire. Especially in times of crises, like famines, plagues, wars, natural catastrophes. Voltaire reported a case of an earthquake followed by the execution of a few heretics by the Catholics, ironically followed by an even more violent earthquake... Paganism: Local religions that the Christians outlawed and fought against in the hopes of replacing them.
