Well God sent the vaccine. Why didn't he use it.... then? I reckon he'll use it... now...

"She said he rarely left the house, was always masked up, and even wore gloves, so she doesn’t know how or where he caught COVID-19." -- www.ksat.com/news/local/2021/08/11/fully-vaccinated-san-antonio-retiree-among-rare-covid-19-breakthrough-deaths/I had written a post in the style of the constant threads here about the one-off cases of people dying from Covid. But it felt gross, and even though it was to make a point, felt too much like gloating about a loss of life. But this guy, Patricio, thought he was protected. Vaccine, mask, gloves, staying inside. He sadly didn't survive. Perhaps if he were in better health it may have been easier for his body to fight this.

Nothing is 100% in life, except for death.
Immunology is extremely complex, and it's all a matter of percentages.
As Greg points out, your chances of surviving the Covid Pandemic are much greater if you get fully vaccinated.
But nothing in this life is guaranteed.

And fortunately, due to the existence of nutritious food, gyms, running shoes, the ability to quit smoking and alcohol, and various weight loss programs, there are far fewer people that die from COVID that have a healthy body and lifestyle than those that are unhealthy.
It is too late for Patricio, but maybe others have found healthy diet and exercise...

What you're failing to include in your analysis (likely purposefully) is that Patricio didn't preach against vaccines or against mitigation .. He didn't through his radio program dissuade hundreds of thousands from getting vaccinated or from wearing masks.. He didn't cough on McDonald's patrons or assault the greeter girl at the Piggly Wiggly when she asked him to wear a mask .. ..
It's the human scum that through their podcasts or from their pulpit discourage others from taking advantage of these protections.. These are the fools that deliver the schadenfreude.. Fuck'um ..

Right. I forgot, there aren't any posts about people who simply live in an area that had higher shares of Trump votes. Or about ICUs full of "Vaccine Refusal Regret".

Noting these numbers isn't the same as sport derived from a Darwin Award Winner .. But nice try comparing apples and oranges..

Saying things like "no help for fools", or "that's what we call poetic justice", or "thinning that portion of the herd can only be a blessing" is exactly the sort of discussion I was referring to. So not apples and oranges.

Let's be practical.
It takes about 30 minutes to get a covid vaccination. For two of the three approved covid vaccines in the USA, multiply that by two.
How long would it take for somebody to:
A) Lose enough weight not to be considered obese B) Be cured of some other co-morbid condition C) Turn back the clock so as no longer to be elderly
?

Your questions are still only worthwhile in a world where there is exclusivity between on one hand vaccination, and on the other healthy living.
We waited several months for the vaccine. In that time there are a lot of people programmed to accept only masks and vaccines to fight Covid that could have worked on their overall health.
But, check out the governor of IL, for example. People who look like him should take a multi-pronged approach. Vaccines and masks are fine. But healthy living should mentioned and considered and endlessly messaged.
It is easy to say being healthy takes too long or is more work, so just take the vaccine and be done. But if the purpose is to increase survival rate and lifetime, why ignore "literally just be healthy"? What better time than a pandemic which imposes harm so disproportionately on the unhealthy to aggressively message and push the idea of healthy living, vitamins and nutrients, and exercise? It is such a tailor-made situation to get the attention of the public and point out how incredibly important and effective good diet and exercise are? They have the ability...they are doing it constantly with the vaccine. Why not with healthy living?

We ain't gettin' healthy.
Not for this pandemic or for our own good.
Not saying we shouldn't, just predicting we won't as it's too hard for most, as measured by any trip to any populated center, anywhere.
Hell, we won't even get a vaccine that's free and may take a half-hour's time.

But if we are going to denigrate those who choose not to do one, we ought to do the same with those who choose not to do the other (especially when the other - healthy living - is far more beneficial in the over scheme of life). Though I prefer we just skip the whole glee over death and disease thing, because it isn't convincing anyone and has no benefit.
I will point again to those like the IL governor. Let's not pretend he is a model for how to avoid health risk because he got the vaccine. The man is clearly unhealthy. He made sure cameras were there when he was vaccinated. But has he ever been on camera exercising? Why not?
Again, now is a perfect time, with the public ears perked up for anything that can help them avoid the suffering of those who get severe covid.
Now is the time to hammer the point of healthy living. But too many just want to "get the jab" and tell others to "just get the jab". They want that to be the easy one stop solution. And folks that put a square or flag over their social media profile and think they are making a difference eat up easy solutions. But there is more to being healthy than a vaccine.

Well, there are plenty of health conditions that cannot be resolved in a few months, or even a few years. And then there are those that are hereditary.
And, unless one prefers suicide, getting old is well nigh impossible to stop.

Nobody is arguing that you can reverse or stop aging. Nor has anybody arguing that all health conditions can be reversed. So I don't know to whom this is directed.
But you can immediately start eating foods or supplements with vitamins and nutrients. You can almost immediately improve your sleep. You can immediately quit or curtail smoking and alcohol. And a few months to a year and a half is enough to drop significant excess weight.

Speak for yourself.
I'll be ready and waiting for my covid booster shot.
And mañana I'll be going to my HMO for the annual flu shot.
