State of Massachusetts sent out mail-in ballot applications (NOT ballots) to all registered voters last week. My wife and I got ours. Each gets a separate application to vote by mail. Again, it's not a ballot, it's an application to get a ballot in the mail. Each application has the voters name and address printed on it. Think I'll get mine.

Greg Hi Greg. And I am sure you will vote legally. But take a look around you. Are all legal registered voters? What did you have to show to get your ballet?

CNN would never mislead, now would they? All registered voters in California will receive a mail-in ballot for the upcoming November election, Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom announced during his daily pandemic briefing. The state is not moving to mail-only, however, and in-person voting will remain an option. www.cnn.com/2020/05/08/politics/california-mail-in-voting/index.html
Ah SO!
1.County election officials must send a ballot to every registered and active voter in the state.
A new law authored by Berman lets counties get a jump-start processing early votes, and instructs them to count ballots they receive up to 17 days after the polls close — as long they are put in the mail on Election Day.
2.For those who need in-person assistance; didn’t get their ballot as planned; don’t have a fixed address; or who need to replace a ballot that’s been torn, lost, pet-chewed or food-splattered, counties still need in-person voting options.

So there IS such a thing as an "unrequested mail in ballot" Why the phuck did you suddenly deny it?

Nothing. Haven't shown any ID since I registered 20 years ago. I just show up at the poll, they ask me my address, I give it to them, they give me a ballot. Done.
Never had a problem.

We show ID here in Florida Greg. At least a driver’s license. I never liked Massachusetts Greg. I don’t know if they still do it, but I had a temporary license to carry my gun there when I vacationed at Cape Cod with my wife and another couple. It was good for 30 days. And no I did not have to shoot anyone, but I can tell you a story about that.

What if that registered voter is dead. The new resident is not a legal citizen, and it votes. Then what? Exactly the point. The issue as you can see once again runs along party lines. That aside there are so many avenues of potential fraud, and many I'm sure we that haven't thought of that it would be wise not to switch to widescale mail voting until there is a fool proof method if there is ever is one, short of fingerprinting. But then we will here the cry, "it's disinfranchisment" my fingerprints are worn down. Actually that does happen. When my wife went to get her Firearms card at the local PD years ago, they couldn't get her prints from all the years of office work. They were worn down. Had to go an have them scanned. Wow, I would have thought a factory worker would get worn off before an office worker. I guess she handled a lot of paper work. Glad she has her permit. My wife had two, Connecticut and Florida. The Florida one is good in many states. Of course not Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, or California.

I served as a poll worker back in 1978. I was designated the polling place supervisor. I didn't request it, but I soon found out why.
Ever since then, I've voted by mail.
Why?
Well, I had to cajole the nice little old ladies who had always worked the polling place to recount the ballots three times before all the figures matched. I even got a thank you call from the city saying it was the first time in years that polling place hadn't fucked it up.
After that I realized that in-person voting is no guarantee of accurate voting results.
So Trump, as usual, is full of shit.

More steps than are used for voting in person, I believe.
It may well be that vote-by-mail is more secure than in-person voting.

You see, since there's so many White folks here, I get the "White Guy Discount Card". See, White folks trust each other, but some have problems with Black folks. So, in a white town, it's just fine. Come on down and vote, it's OK. You don't need no ID. We trust you. However, in a big black town, "We want three forms of ID!" Just sayin... Greg

The Florida one is good in many states. Of course not Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, or California. She was the IG for the East Coast Region. Lots of paperwork. Investigated fraud among other issues. Retired after 39 years of doing it for both the Army and Navy. Don't remind me that for now I'm still stuck in shithole blue NJ. Move to Florida. (So long as you don’t vote democrat). Our taxes on homes are low, no tax on your vehicles, even with your air conditioner running all day and night your electric bill will be close to or less than where you are. And in the winter, if you have the gas heat here that works off the air conditioner, real cold weather like high 30s your bill may go to 55 dollars for a month that is for cooking too. Our gas price is up again today. Most stations now at 2.15. I filled up today at Walmart stations for 2.07. The worst I ever saw gas price was in California. It was 4.09 when I was there, and I paid 3.00 dollars for a cup of coffee, no cream or sugar. Democrat run states need money to give away to buy votes. I think registered democrats should not be allowed to live here. They will vote the way they did in the states they are running away from and destroy this one.

Black people show the same ID that we do. And if you don’t have a driver’s license like some elderly or disabled, motor vehicle gives them a voter ID with their picture on it. They may have to show a birth certificate to get one. And that is all they will need then. It looks like the north is more racist than the south.

Therein lies the issue. You said it yourself. Do we have the capacity and means to check every vote if we go that route? California already had no-excuse absentee voting, so they probably do have the resources. In 2016, 57.79% cast their ballot by mail in California; 72% earlier this year. ( Source) Texas probably doesn't, because not that many ballots are cast by mail and most counties do not have enough machines to handle a significant increase in mail ballots.

I suspect blue NJ thought it could handle it. We see how well This is just one city. 1 in 5 Ballots Rejected as Fraud Is Charged in N.J. Mail-In Election Following accusations of widespread fraud, voter intimidation, and ballot theft in the May 12 municipal elections in Paterson, N.J., state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal (pictured) announced Thursday he is charging four men with voter fraud – including the vice president of the City Council and a candidate for that body. In the City Council election, 16,747 vote-by-mail ballots were received, but only 13,557 votes were counted. More than 3,190 votes, 19% of the total ballots cast, were disqualified by the board of elections. Due to the pandemic, Paterson’s election was done through vote-by-mail. Mail-in ballots have long been acknowledged by voting experts to be more susceptible to fraud and irregularities than in-person voting. Over 800 ballots in Paterson were invalidated for appearing in mailboxes improperly bundled together – including a one mailbox where hundreds of ballots were in a single packet. The bundles were turned over to law enforcement to investigate potential criminal activity related to the collection of the ballots. There were multiple reports that large numbers of mail-in ballots were left on the lobby floors of apartment buildings and not delivered to residents’ individual mailboxes, further casting doubt on the integrity of the election. www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2020/06/26/1_in_5_ballots_rejected_as_fraud_is_charged_in_nj_mail-in_election_143551.html
Oh… So what your saying is, the system WORKED and an attempt to defraud the voters was thwarted, as it should be. Good to go!

Here we once again have greg playing his old game of "so you said" when the person said no such thing. A shame he can't speak for himself and post his own opinion. Not the point of the story but no one accused greg of being honest or smart anyway...just diversionary. Well, you seem to be so upset about mail in voting. Seems to me, from the article YOU posted, the system works just fine.

We caught one instance in a local race so by the logic offered, we therefore will be able to catch every instance nationwide and in every precinct. Of course not the opposite conclusion that on such a small scale it actually happened in a BIG way. I'd say the odds are against 100% detection nationwide. Then there's always this. The point that fraud existed and was caught is drowned out by the diversionary response of, "see it was caught". Therefore the sytem if foolproof. If not for ass-backwards logic, greg would have nothing left to say, except to do his best to divert or dilute the facts.
But it WAS caught. YOU'VE proved it. The system works as advertised. Nobody said it's foolproof, but it worked.

Those are just starters for the unknown voter.
I figure that the "nice little old ladies" who worked the polls are the only ones who want to take that job. Low pay, fairly long hours, and dealing with paper who haven't brought the i.d. needed. Some of we voters can get a wee bit testy if things don't go our way or as we expected. Do you really believe that mailin balloting will go more smoothly? How will they know that the person is really still alive? How do we know the true identity of the person voting? How do we know the citizenship? Eligibility?
