OK, we all have things that bug us.
Some more than others.
But lately it's been TV commercials during network news broadcasts.
When I has a college student in the 70's, I had a housemate who hailed from the German part of Switzerland. He was a post doc on campus, and very opinionated. The other American in the house and I wound up not being able to stand watching TV downstairs if the Switzerdeutch asshole was present. We Americans would just go into a trance of sorts when commercials came on, but the Swiss guy would make a big deal about them, laughing, exclaiming, and distracting us from our brain freezes. I eventually moved out and got my own studio apartment, with no Swiss within range. LOL.
Fast forward about 45 years, and I'm finding I'm increasingly annoyed by the commercials that appear on TV, especially during the evening network news shows. Usually the first 10 minutes or so of these programs are commercial free. After that it gets increasingly choppy, and eventually there will be maybe less than a minute of actual news followed by five minutes of annoying commercials.
The most annoying commercials seem to be for various medicines. I guess there's a ton on money to be made from these; I'm sure they are way overpriced as well. I'm so tired of hearing about the latest medication with the ridiculous name, like Flibertygibbetablab.
Thank God for the mute button.
My solution has been to get my news from PBS as much as possible, but often the big networks have better footage of major events.
It's a crap shoot, but the PBS commercials (pledge breaks) are generally easy to avoid, and not quite so annoying.
And thank God for the mute button.

Yeah, the medicine ads are really annoying to me as well. I have a theory about why so many on the network news. It seems to me that the majority of people who watch news on TV are in the middle aged and over group, so they usually have more medical ailments than younger folks. The advertisements are aimed at the viewer demographics.
"Ask your doctor to see if Gemflatulance is right for you". I asked my doctor once about these ads and she hated them as much as I do. She said that if she thought a particular drug was right for me, she would have prescribed it.

The other annoyance is Tom Selleck hawking AAG's reverse mortgage scam.
When did he become such a windbag?
I mean, he's always been sort of a whiny bitch, squeaking in a high voice to whoever happens to be within whining range on his hit/shit show Magnum PI.
But now it's worse.
"This isn't my first time at the rodeo" Selleck blathers, like anybody cares that he's old as fuck.
"This isn't a way to take your home" he reassures.
Yeah, right. Take a moment and research reverse mortgages. They are one of the most costly ways to fund a retirement. When you move out, which most seniors eventually may, to go to a retirement home etc., the reverse mortgage company steps in and no doubt makes a windfall off the home, leaving the senior any/or the heirs little to nothing. I understand there are betters ways to fund a retirement.
But, whatever.
Like I said earlier, Thank God for the mute button!

Has anyone seen those hideous Joe Namath medical insurance ads? Namath was a childhood hero of mine, but I swear to God that I would throttle him now, if I could just get close enough.

I didn't notice them last April, but recently they started playing on a local movie channel here.
Atrocious!
I used to respect Joe.

I had never heard of him before but I just watched one of those ads out of curiosity. It's crap but no worse crap than any other ads I had ever seen. What gets you so worked up?

And even worse than those Namath/Medicare TV ads, are the Tom Selleck/Reverse Mortgage TV ads.
Again, beware!

Namath was such a maverick in his day. When I was like 8 years old, we has a hero. Now he's just another despicable lying pitchman helping to bankrupt Medicare by privatizing same.

Wow, that *could* be a disturbing video, except for that it's so poorly conducted I'm not entirely sure what the lady is trying to say.
