OK, maybe all explainable, but tonight I noticed my Skyscan clock was way off. Like showing 3:00 when it was really 7:00. And the second hand was not moving.
So I got out the battery - it's a rechargeable NiMH - and stuck it in the charger. Woops, charger light not lighting up. WTF?
So then went into fixit mode to dive under the utility table near my desk in the office to try to figure out which power strip the darn charger is plugged into. After a LOT of false leads, finally found a power strip that had been switched off. I blame the cat.
Got the charger to work, and the darn rechargeable battery was not that far gone. Damn. Got a non-rechargeable lithium battery and put that into the clock. Still fubar. WTF? pressed some buttons, advanced the clock to nearly the right time, pushed the correct time zone button. Wouldn't you know, now it seems to be working. These Skyscan clocks are weird. Occasionally they will decide they need to reset and go into a fast forward mode until they figure they have the time right. I blame the satellites for that. Or maybe NASA. Or, why not, Biden?

I have three of these automatic clocks and once in a great while one of them gets glitchy (almost always the same one). The problem corrects itself without intervention after a while, typically a couple of hours...

If you are talking about today, there was a military test of GPS jamming hardware in southern CA that would effect almost all of the west coast. Basically Oregon and south. Your clock is probably using GPS satellite data to determine the time. The jamming probably sent a fake time signal to the receivers. If the receivers think the time is wrong they will not know the precise location of the satellites and they will improperly calculate the position, hence the GPS is jammed.

Yes, I have another GPS wall clock in the bathroom, and that one was not affected.
So much for KKKSU's GPS jamming theory.

This is why map, compass, arithmetic, stars matter. The battery never dies on a map.

Perfectly plausible theory though. Even if he is a conservaloon.

Perfectly plausible theory though. Even if he is a conservaloon. It's a connection to an atomic clock, it has nothing to do with GPS. The glitches are probably due to a bad transmission, that usually gets corrected the next time... Plus there are several of these clocks around the world, if you live in Europe you likely won't get your signals from the same one as the people in the US.

Thanks. Another KKKSU fail.
I suspect it's not the clock itself, but rather the location of clock. The other one is in a different part of the house, and doesn't seem to glitch as much as the one in my study, if at all. OTOH, I don't look at the "good" one as much as I do this one. Since the other one is in the bathroom. I put it in a location where I can see it from the shower.. as well as from a seated position, LOL.

Well, he's one of the paranoid fringe. Here is the non aviation version of the NOTAM (notice to airman) that talks about service disruption as a function of military testing. www.navcen.uscg.gov/?pageName=gpsServiceInterruptions

As far as I can tell, your link says nothing about GPS signals interfering with "atomic" clocks.
The Skyscan clocks I have receive a low frequency radio signal from Colorado. At the rate of about one time signal per minute. None of the sites I visited mention any possibility of GPS signals interfering with these "atomic" clocks. What the Skyscan site says is to leave the damn clock alone around the switch to/from DST. It does say that if the clock is acting up to stick it in a window facing toward Colorado. The one in my study is on a wall on the opposite side of the house from Colorado, which may explain why it's the one that usually has problems. The one in the bathroom is close to a window that faces the direction of Colorado.
Have some nice minutes, M'Kay?

I assumed you didn't know the difference between an atomic clock and a GPS clock.

Yet another false KKKSU assumption.
Where's that list?

Rechargeable batteries suck. Otherwise that's all they'd make. The President of the United States should have fixed this issue with rechargeable batteries along time ago, starting with Obama. Thanks for nothing Obama. My insurance cost more, but my batteries suck!.

Some rechargeable batteries do suck. Like the old Nicad batteries, that develop a memory and need to be completely discharged before they can be completely recharged.
The NiMH batteries aren't too bad, especially the newer ones that retain their charge longer than older ones. If they say "Pre-charged" then they are the better ones.
Top of the list are the Lithium ion batteries. These give the best performance but can be slightly hazardous if they are crushed - they might start a fire. Or so I've read.
And if you want to talk about sucky batteries, I'm tired of alkaline non-rechargeable batteries that leak inside devices and leave a mess in their wake. When I can I replace them with NiMH pre-charged batteries.

I left batteries in toys that would have been worth money today. My nightrider car
