www.washingtonpost.com/history/2019/07/11/ocasio-cortez-wants-axe-homeland-security-some-conservatives-didnt-want-it-begin-with/I felt the same way about Homeland Security and the Patriot Act back when these horrendous pieces of legislation were being concocted. The argument against these expansions of state power was the same as it is now, "great, but what happens when someone else gets elected and they get to decide how to use this new authority, what then?" And now we see "what then" looks like. It is a secret police force running lose in an American city, plucking people off the street in un-marked cars, and disappearing folks into black sites without charges or due process. It looks like an American version of the Gestapo. So much for freedom, limited government and the constitution. These are quaint and obsolete notions today.

I'd say the last 3 paragraphs are about as drama queen as you can get...and pretty much a major insult to anyone who survived under hitler... the one making the rounds is my favorite: "One demonstrator, Mark Pettibone, 29, said agents who were in camouflage but lacked any insignia forced him into an unmarked van and did not tell him why he was being arrested. Deploying agents without any identification violates the protocols of police departments across the United States." OK, now if I was a 6th grade student and this was my report, I'd get an F...he clearly got out of the situation...there is clearly much more to this story.... does jussie smollett have a pseudonym? |

AOC is tough on Amazon and the perks cities such as NY offer them to set up shop.
If we assume everything AOC believes is wrong, we must also believe her position on Amazon was wrong, and a more pro-Amazon approach was called for.
The problem is.. I don't see a great deal of support for a pro-Amazon position on the part of AOC's enemies. Can we even say the name Bezos without spitting?
Perhaps we can't oppose everything AOC stands for, root and branch. Perhaps we should pick and choose.
I see no problem making common cause with AOC when the situation warrants it.

I'll support anyone scaling back the all encompassing defense/police state.
Thought maybe we would do that with Trump taking the reins of the Federal government in 2017, but was mistaken. He chose SNAP, Meals on Wheels and other social safety net programs that are real invasions of our privacy and freedom. Doubt Biden will do anything either but it's possible. Maybe. :/

Seems like Homeland Security under Trump has become a haven for neo-Nazis and the like.
Once he's out of office, either HS needs to be defunded, or cleaned out.
