There are plenty of bystanders in a complex scam like religion, especially one that is spread over centuries. Some are what we call useful idiots, they contribute to the delusion while not being part of the inner circle.

And there never was an ape man. Nobody ever discovered an ape man. Its all ancient philosophy and bad philosophy even in ancient times. But if evolution were to be true. then it was religion that enlightened man and brought him out of his cave and went to the moon in less time than in all those (supposed) millions of years before the religious enlightenment. This would mean religion gave humanity superior intellectual powers of thought prior to their former condition.
