archie makes an excellent point...about how when he was young, and what he went thru - or what his ancestors went thru...man, when I grew up the irish and italians hated each other...after every high school game, big fights...you couldn't go into a bar in providence (all italians) as an irish kid (me) without getting into a close fight or full on fight....we used to go on purpose because we liked the city girls and it'd piss the local guys off...
losers tend to rationalize - we see a great deal of that going on here...let me give you a few examples..
- half the jews on the face of the planet were literally exterminated in a 6 or so year period...now we don't see jews blowing up german cafes, do we? But if they were, some could certainly explain it away
- we bombed the crap out of japan to end WWii...but they are close allies today - and they have a different look and culture than white anglo's...and same with pearl harbor and all the atrocities we committed against each other...same with much of europe...but we move on
the point is, any one of us can look to what happened to our ancestors - all horrific - or to our grandparents or parents at the hands of war enemies...but we for the most part, do not...we hitch up our pants, and move on...
so yes, do I agree slavery was bad, and that you may have had an ancestor in who ended up being a slave under black slave owner anthony johnson, or some white slave owner....but do you give a rats butt that my irish grandmother was 12 working slave labor and getting raped...or do you care at all that when I lived in LA I was attacked 3x by black gang members...of course you don't, and you shouldn't and I don't care that much about your plight....because its all irrelevant to how I should behave in society.
