Is that a real question?
Is either more important than the other?
Al Gore managed to invent the Internet as a senator. Why can't it be both?

Yes, that's what I'm asking. You attributed an intellectual drain of The Left to technolgy. Color me dubious.
I've been making this argument for close to 10 years now. And bama is the first person to check me on it lol. Gratz bama.
But ...
Why are so many employees of major technology companies so left-wing, in particular so invested in woke ideology?
I would like to consider this question without judging whether this is good or bad. I would also like to think about it in abstract terms, separate from any controversies involving any particular tech company, which are variously accused of being biased against the right or the left. And I fully acknowledge that there is a prominent strain of libertarianism in the tech world, though even that tends to be of the more liberal variety.
It's not exactly a radical idea I'm suggesting. That there has been a brain drain on the left is obvious IMO. "The left" (as in progressives like AOC and The Bern) have never been weaker in a trend that started with Clinton as he pivoted the Democratic party towards "Third Way" Republican politics and corporatism. Coincidentally as the tech revolution kicked off and revitalized the economy that Clinton benefited so much in "legacy" for (undeservedly IMO)
There is actually a connection to tariffs there bama. In the fact that pre Clinton the Democratic party and especially more left wing heroes on the left were pro tariff to protect the American proletariat. Bernie was an attempt to get back to the pre Clinton Democratic party. And he was big on tariffs and big on dismantling managed trade agreements like the poorly acronymed NAFTA. What would "leftist" politics have looked like if Steve Jobs had gone into politics?
I'm down for more conversation about it bama. I don't think anyone's investigated it yet because the people who would are all Democrats and ... good luck getting those arrogant cocks to admit they're not as smart as tech engineers. Why would it even occur to them to look into it?

Not sure I get the connection to the subject matter ...
The easy answer would be workers. But that ignores that I know workers that are asshats I don't want to hang around with.
So the easy answer would be investors. But that ignores that I know investors that are asshats I don't want to hang around with.
People are generally pretty much the same on a person to person level. I don't see a difference. Perhaps because, as I've pointed out before ... I'm bicultural. Dad was a trucker. Mom was a businesswoman.
But to be honest, I'm happiest hanging with my wife and kids. So that's what I do. Queshank

For decades the high tech part of the country was Massachusetts. Wang, data general, digital equipment corp. All on hi tech highway along route 128. Those folks were very conservative. But back then that area was conservative.

Nah. Has more to do with curious minds tending to lean left.
.... and anti establishment ... but that's a forward looking discussion and I'm looking back at the past 40 years of brain drain on the left's political flank in this thread. I make the forward looking argument with my "and another one" periodic updates over the years.

lol It's definitely not education. "College dropout" tends to go along with "Successful tech startup." Bill Gates and Steve Jobs being early trendsetters. Mark Zuckerberg being a more recent example.

Also Fiddler ... college is no longer the destination for the curious. It started crushing curiosity in students a loooong time ago. Hence the "college dropout- tech billionaire" pipeline.
